Anonymous, 12 Jan 2019What about the exynos equivalent of it?It may used LPDDR5 because samsung has access to this tech.

No phone was last free ever. Not iPhone or nexus then. And note 4 did not load much different than others.

Not to mention there is more going on than just gpu. Cpu, power efficiency, throttling level, audio, etc also count.

But I was a windows phone user at the time and currently a One Plus user. I have no reason to praise Google. But it's a fact that Samsung TouchWiz at the time was infamous for being laggy even on good hard ware.

to be honest, mali was never on par with adreno. but this could be game changing. with lpddr5, samsung could easily feed the gpu block with data, faster than the snapdragon variant.

six_tymes, 12 Jan 2019OK, now I am impressed, and I am seriously going to conside... moreUseless. Even ddr4 in desktop has only increased performance by 5% at max. Newer memory won't bring significant improvement in speed, it will only unlock the potential of clocking it up further. But then again, at least the cpu in smartphone can be clocked up further, which mean they also need to research how to disipate more heat from such a tiny closed space, lpddr5 will not be worth developing, as seen on how slow it has been developed so far.

Anonymous, 12 Jan 2019DDr5 is already in my nvidia gtx graphics card awwsummDdr is for desktop use. DDR stands for double data rate. No other tech uses standart DDR slot except desktop. GDDR is for graphics. Ddr sdram (synchronous dynamics) for mobile and LPDDR is for smartphone and some of IoT. LP stands for low power. Try being knowledgable before being cocky.

Anonymous, 12 Jan 2019DDr5 is already in my nvidia gtx graphics card awwsummLol no it's not. What u r talking abt is GDDR5. That has no relationship to DDR5. GDDR5 is a graphics card only memory that's actually based on the DDR3 architecture and has since been succeeded by GDDR5x and HBM.

I doubt whether this news is real. And the accompanying video doesn't help.
Having said that Samsung already had the tech, and this could help it separate itself from the other Android pack, as well as makeup for the slight performance issues with the Exynos 9820. Obviously not to mentions that this could push the Photo and Video capabilities of the S10 Series to a completely different level.

g6 user, 12 Jan 2019most of you worried about useless for now ufs 3.0 and ddr5 ... moreI disagree. Of course snapdragon 800 with 2gb ram could work, but it was not a pleasant experience. I had to highly optimize Note 4 (with Snapdragon 805) so it would not lag etc (for a heavy user scenario with lots of applications and web pages that consume memory).
Huawei Mate 10 with kirin 870 (i suppose Snapdragon 835 is an equivalent) is the first phone where i did not do ANY optimizations and finally everything is blazing fast and lag free.
I guess that in terms of performance from now on, any phone will be "good enough" for the vast majority of users, and people will start paying most attention to features that really matter: for example, that a phone must have 3.5-mm jack, decent battery (min 4000 mah), and flat screen (to avoid glares on the fragile edges).
and of course, any performance increase is appreciated, it wouldn't hurt.

The Exynos 9820 doesn't even support LPDDR5.
