Anonymous, 17 Jan 2019I think I know what you're trying to say. Did you mean Appl... moreWell, Apple doesn't have any other OLED supplier that can deliver the quantity they need. So it's logical that they took Samsung. And well, if you develop new tech, you must be sure your suppliers can make it, so you work with them. Wouldn't be smart to get all worked up on a patent on paper if nobody can mass produce it IRL. Either way, they must share their plans. With a NDA of course.

Did you mean Apple doesn't manufacture their own screen but sources it from Samsung? Even then they wouldn't let them know how their R&D is going, after all Samsung are a competitor in the same field of mobile phone manufacturing. One of the reasons Apple took their fab business to TSMC.
At the moment I'm not really too impressed with what we so far have seen of folding screen smart phones, it doesn't have the wow factor yet and folding the phone makes it too big. Maybe there needs to be a different approach? I don't like Apple's idea neither.

Fayth, 17 Jan 2019different approach? what so different with FlexPaiThis is what I was thinking - it's not different? The FlexPai folds outward too and we see how well that works right now, which is very bulky and not very clean looking. I really have a feeling that the outward-facing screen bend is gonna be harder to handle for some time.

Foldable iphone would proce not less than $2999.
Apple copying easier but not the price. Price is solely decided.
Junk.

That will be the wet dream for Apple. An ecstasy for them every time you damage your big screen and they charge you $750 for change it if you don't have Apple Care or less money but with a special Apple Care of >$250 for the folding phone plus $XXX.

There must be a misunderstanding here... it is SIMPLER (display-wise) to make it fold that way, as the curvature is less narrow. So it should actually could lead to a THINNER and not a THICKER display.
But it is still a dubious idea as the foldable screens are bound to be easily scratched (hard and flexible are unfortunately incompatible...) but aPple might see this s a plus, as they always have been the leaders in cheating the users with planned obsolescence....
Optimally we would have a three-part device that could fold BOTH as a "z" and an "e" protecting the screen. But that is a couple of years further away I guess....
It could give us something roughly 16:9 both folded and unfolded.

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2019Now Samsung execs second guessing what Apple may or may not... moreApple isn't sourcing their own components. Especially displays. So Samsung is in a very good position to say that. The best position actually. You'd think display R&D would take a while. They need their partners early in the process.

Now Samsung execs second guessing what Apple may or may not do with their version of a foldable phone. Note to Samsung, guys, get yours done properly.
Apple haven't said anything, it was a Samsung exec and we have critics on here as usual attacking Apple.
The Samsung exec said it to get people to buy their phones. No one outside of Apple select few know what is next, phone wise, so we will just have to wait and see.
