IpsDisplay, 18 Jan 2019I disagree completely , Google is out.of the conversation i... morei laughed at this. really i was thinking about it myself on why people are going crazy over handheld night shots looking like day shots? i mean, why would somebody want to shoot pictures in the dark and make it look like it was shot with lights? artsy night shots with proper camera are all about silhouettes and shadows, right?

LG Superfan, 17 Jan 2019Google and Huawei disagreeI disagree completely , Google is out.of the conversation in terms of quality, what's the point of taking a night photo that looks like daytime? Just wait until day take that picture with better quality
Huawei is debatable but in my opinion the r17pro is the best night mode I've seen all the samples tell the tale

Anonymous, 18 Jan 2019What's the reason?IMX have different Pixel Binning process.
IMX have true 48MP, 0.8µm pixel sensor do pixel binning into 12MP, 1.6µm pixel.
GM1 have only 12MP, 1.6µm pixel sensor simulating a 48MP, 0,8 µm pixel and then do pixel binning back into 12MP, 1.6µm pixel...
IMX who have true 48MP sensor will have sharper image, have better binning result, and will have better zoom image than GM1 who merely "simulating" a 48mp.
And apparently one of the reason Xiaomi use 2 sensor is simply they haven't manage to secure enough supply of IMX sensor and they settled to use GM1 for some of the production.

jzay, 18 Jan 2019understand the title broGSMA wrote- "The Redmi Note 7 is the first of its siblings to feature the large 1/2” ISOCELL GM1 sensor with 48MP resolution. Individual pixels measure 0.8µm, but they can be binned to simulate a 12MP sensor with 1.6µm pixels.
Xiaomi included four sample shots with the new mode and they are indeed in 12MP resolution.".
Dude was right. GSMA thought these were samples from Redmi Note 7. You read the title and dude read the article.

I really like Xioami.
Let me contemplate,
1. People who can't afford flagship, enjoy great spec in this product.
2. When low and mid segment mobile provides flagship feature in its basic features, indirectly technology encourage to jump next level.
3. Poor get high quality pictures for instagram, facebook, whatsapp etc. (all looks amazing and satisfied).
4. Brings equality in competitor's prices.
Thnx.

The results are definitely impressive if we're not pixel peeping...
But I think that directly using a 1.6um 12MP sensor is better than this binning because there are gaps between pixels..
And due to this gap between pixels, you're getting a little lesser actual light from 4 smaller pixels than one bigger pixel.
But yes, its definitely more versatile to choose 48 or 12 MP in a second! :) So, overall a yes vote!
