Weekly poll results: 2019 is the year of 5G

A 5G-enabled foldable phone will knock it out of the park - those are the two most-requested features for 2019 smartphones.

Do you know how much to setup a 5G antenna if it need more antenna than 4G. If 5G is great it should use less antenna but have the 5G speeds.

That's why I stayed with my normal S7, I don't like edge displays, rounded corners, weird notches or weird aspect ratios!
Also I like the phone to have bezels, but not too much!
What I want is a 5.0-5.3(16:9 1440P or 4K flat amoled screen with no rounded corners) inch phone, with a big battery 4000+ mAh, 3.5mm headphone jack, IP68 certification, a high-end rear & selfie camera, a good flash, a good speaker(2 front facing stereo speakers would be better though), actual fast charging(20-30+ Watt), NFC, wireless charging, USB type C connector (better be 3.2 gen 2), 8+GB of LPDDR4X memory, UFS 3.0 storage 128+ GB, latest version of gorilla glass (currently version 5 is the latest), cutting edge 7nm SOC(CPU, GPU etc.) whit all the latest and greatest features, IR blaster, Bluetooth 5.0, latest WiFi version/features (ad/ax MU-MIMO WPA3 etc.), Fingerprint reader, actual physical buttons (back, home, recent), all the package of sensors(Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Magnetometer etc.) High-end GPS, RGB notification led, Durable high-end material/construction, a good DAC & AMP, a good elegant design (it isn't necessary to be super slim, cause theycan fit more stuff inside), microSD (SDUC & UHS-III support), Dual SIM(nanosim & dual standby), a good feature rich OS with actual useful capabilities that's lightweight and with beautiful UI.
I don't think that I forgot anything behind, but anyway this is my dream phone, I may demand too much but it's just a dream!

5G yes it is the way forward and cannot wait. After saying that i hope that new phones dont carry on the trend of getting bigger and heavier as i really do think we have reached the limit. i wish they would stop making flagship phones bigger just to show bigger is best.

A big majority may not be able to enjoy this 5G yet, so they can just use 4G for the time being until 5G coverage matured. Big city will definitely enjoy 5G from the start. Country like S.Korea already have 99% LTE coverage so Samsung have no fear of launching such devices for their home country. China have Huawei telecomunication equipments developer to developed 5G so they also have no worry about coverage.

About radiation it just a myth. World Health Organization classifies phone only as class 2B carcinogens; these includes things like pickles and aloe vera emmiting similar radiation. Cancer incidence rate doesnt correlate with advancement in cellular network increasing usage. By that logic, population rate should had decrease signficantly with more advanced cellular network implemented each decade. Everyone in the big city should have shorter lifespan and more death from cancer. Thank god it just a stupid media myths.

Shanti Dope, 20 Jan 2019Yay! 5G is here! Now I can do many things that I couldn't ... moreYou can drain your battery faster!

The phones coming in 2019 will have 5G through a separate chip not integrated into the SoC, so it will consume more power. Things might be better for phones coming in 2020, but 2019 will be unimpressive.

                    Wow!
its like there will be that significant difference in speed as its always depending on hardware.
I'd like to see improved battery life and not get quicker speeds to drain it even quicker!
                    peace

5G is useless for phones in 2019.
It has shorter range than 4G and the speeds of 4G are already more than sufficient for most people.

No shit sherlock. Also to add how stupid people are to want foldable phones while only a small percent of them can actually afford it.

I'm good enough even with just 25Mbps, but the thing that needs to be sorted out is the consistency of the internet connection, like absolutely no interruption, and the ping ranging only from 20ms to 80ms, nothing more, nothing less.

Luxor, 20 Jan 2019Why people so worried about 5G? This remind me of 2011 all ... moreThe thing with 4G is the same as this one on 5G. During the time of launch of 4G, it wasn't widely ready for consumer use yet. 2011 that it started, and only in 2015 that it becomes a standard for smartphones? See how long it took before the technology was fully developed, yet many countries still aren't getting the full benefits of it, like in my case where I don't even get any network signal inside my house that's not really fully covered.
5G will start this year, but will only become the standard for the next 5 years or so, depending on how fast the adaptation is, and how it really affects living creatures' health against strong radiations that it produces.

Why people so worried about 5G? This remind me of 2011 all over again. All the media writing articles about how we dont need 4G and it will be useless and pricy. They talking about how current phone cpu and apps cannot take advantage of 4G yet. Sure, but that all change in just a couple of years. Around 2015 it starting to be accepted as a must-have even among midrange. Look at phone now in 2019, even budget phone or even feature phone can do 4G perfectly fine. Any phone without 4G will be mocked & labelled as overpriced crap when there are abundance of cheap 4G phones. There are even option to choose either using 3G or 4G in the mobile data setting so there are even less worries. You like it or not all the carriers will switch their sim card to 5G type sooner or later no matter if you insert it in a mere 4G phone or 5G phone.

Funny thing to see people voted for 5g, which will be in very limited available and insanely expensive. 4g already does everything what you need, 5g only improves speeds, but you not really going to see big difference. I doubt people you will stream 4k movies over your tuny phone :) Foldable is there things gets really serious and will vhange mobile landscape.

Then you need a capable phone. That means a new 2019 phone, and 5G modems cost more.
Then you need to be lucky enough to find yourself in a real 5G area
Then you need to stay put until 5G rolls out across the country. Last time I visited USA in 2017, much of Virginia didn't even have 3G!
Only then does it matter if there are cat videos to watch in 8k.
Ubiquitous reliable 4G would be better for most people.
5G will be valuable, but not quite yet. Having the infrastructure in place first will be vital to any effective real world usage case.

Now I can do many things that I couldn't ... moreThe 5G mainly enabling future techs to run through wireless networks effectively. It definitely doesn't bring any significant changes to the conventional consumers devices like laptops or smartphones. But useful for things like smart-vehicles/cars for consumers, IoT devices for business users. And the most important thing - AI, which can be used for consumers, business, government and military sectors, like AI assistant, automated factory, unmanned military drones, automated surveillance systems and etc.

The higher speed and reliability of the 5G wireless network is able to unlocking the full potentials of those future technologies (theoretically only though). It's believed to be one of key technologies of the upcoming industrial revolution, which is also one of the reason why now the two superpowers are clashing to each other on recent "spying" and "banning" case.
