But they all split, and we was forced to close. But yeah, you need to pay. And as I said, you can get unlocked from day 1.

So, I'd have to pay them around 1,200 euros to get timely updates....

But it is available right aw... moreNo, I've been with Three mobile since forever because they used to be the only ones with unlimited data in Ireland. I have talked to them several times over the years, latest before I upgraded to the Note 9, and they don't unlock phones until you either upgrade or it expires. Most other countries do indeed offer unlocked phones. Consumer laws in Ireland are however more American than European, i.e. protecting the corporations against the evil consumers.

Because the contract is still fully active, but you can use another sim card if you want to pay for 2 carriers.

Sent from my locked Irish 3 mobile Galaxy Note 9, that might or might not get the next security patch, depending on how lazy 3 is this time around.

It is just a different business model.
Keep the user for a certain period and let the user have the device for a reduced down payment.
IF you expect to keep that carrier anyway, it can actually be rather profitable as user.
