Also the topnotch wireless headphones and earphones are not remotely close to wired ones!

Its same. As i said before wireless is always evolving jack isnt better.
All depends on earphones used.
Cheap chinese wired earphones will always deliver poor sound quality compared to branded one such as Senheisier or Bose etc. It has nothing to do with jack which is just audioconector and nothing else.

Size does not matter because jack is jack there is nothing to evolve since it has been reduced from large sizes to smaller ones.
