10 February 2019
Mobile phones started off on slow CSD, then Internet on the go became popular with 3G and ubiquitous with 4G.

travis999, 10 Feb 2019Here in the UK, I LOVE using EDGE, nobody else is ever usin... moreHere telkomsel in Indonesia, edge already banned from internet access, can't even ping Google without 3G / LTE. And Volte is not supported by this largest cellular provider at all. Can't received phone when on 4G/LTE only, can't access internet with only 2G / edge.

Rant: When power outage happens 4G/LTE is died too,Happen atleast twice a week, 6 hr each. massive electricity deficit because Peasant scared and nuclear generator facilities project was rejected, build more oil burner instead

My Moto G4 Play works fine. Won't buy new phone until 5G coming.

Great article GSMArena... what about 5G which starts at 5Gbps+ and given expensive data plans by network providers...also looks like three 1st 5G phones will be too big...all of them 6" display or bigger

3g made the biggest impact when it come out.

travis999, 10 Feb 2019Here in the UK, I LOVE using EDGE, nobody else is ever usin... moreLucky you, I'm in a simple town in urban area and I don't even get consistent signal from my network provider, which means I have to resort to the other network just to get an internet (two networks, one has great speeds but weak coverage, the other has great coverage but inferior speed and consistency).

Here in the UK, I LOVE using EDGE, nobody else is ever using it, so you get almost the entire system to yourself, switch to 3G or 4G and the speeds go down to a crawl, because everyman and is dog are trying to use them all at once, it's one of the mai reasons I keep my htc hd2's in good working order, their one of the few decent devices that you can still manually select Edge with.

I would prefer HSPA without data cap over 5G with 4GB limit.

                      2G is about to die.

In my country, the usage of Fiber Optics were really pushing home internet to the new level.

Previously, it was just 2Mbps at best. Now, we can manage to go beyond 100Mbps thank to cable internet.

And for wireless connection, 4G is a great step up. From usually 300Kbps to now 5Mbps. Real usage, tho.

I hope once 5G available, 4G speed could be maximized by carriers here.

At least using University internet, i could download at 400Mbps speed, which is amaziiing.

This article is good, as compact as the size of Galaxy A8 2018, iPhone X/XS or anything like those.
Practically, I do not feel big difference between 3G & 4G, except for Internet based voice calling. I am waiting for 5G phone and feel the difference.
