This is so good, because Xiaomi makes quality phones and provide best value for money in terms of both hardware and software. Instead of bullshit advertisement using useless actors and banners all over in market they save cost and invest in good things.
Samsung has good brand value in India but their phones are overpriced and people finally start realising this, that's why they finally brought M series.
Vivo and Oppo are two worst brand and I never recommend anyone to buy these phones, on paper their smartphones shine with large display and high megapixel count but they use outdated and slow processor. Their business model revolves around heavy advertisement and providing good profits to shopkeepers and whenever you visit any offline shop they insist and manipulate you to buy Vivo or Oppo, I think they also pay to these famous youtubers for good review.
So for upto Rs 20000 Xiaomi, Honor, galaxy M series,
Rs 20000-30000 Poco, LG G7, galaxy A series, Honor Play
Above 30000 OP6t, Honor View20, LG G7 (6GB), Galaxy S series, Apple,Vivo Nex S, Oppo FindX etc

Anonymous, 08 Feb 2019you forget about the new entrant ...realmeAbsolutely aware of realme brand. it's an attempt to lure people with similar name to that of Redmi ( there are many such products which have names similar to popular brands. e.g.- Blackcherry, ivoomi)
It's nothing great.

In the next 2 years, Asus might rise up to at least the top 3, assuming that they continue releasing the same level of competitive budget phones on an annual basis.

Everything will be change in next quarter after Samsung M series..
Indian people surely choose non Chinese brand even if non Chinese brand offer same or little less value for money product's.
Indians is too much USA PRO. what is said by any US agency on security they just believe blindly like what's going on Huawei matter.

The African market is dominated by another Chinese phone company, Techno, relatively unknown elsewhere. Willingness to design phones that meet the needs and budgets of the African buyers is key to its success. Who would think that Techno is making phones in Africa? Africa could be the next China.

Not at all surprising. Xiaomi may not be best but it delivers quality appropriate to the price tag. It has been able to strike that spot where price and quality works for all.
OPPO VIVO use very different game plan, which will surely backfire sooner or later. Rather than focusing on quality of products, OPPO VIVO offers higher commission margin to sellers compared to other companies. Hence, sellers (though selling all brands) insists OPPO VIVO to buyers. Yet one can see that OPPO VIVO combined numbers still half way to Xiaomi numbers.
Micromax in top 5 is unexpected.I appreciate OPPO VIVO for trying something new (slide out cam and all), but Micromax doesn't even do that. They are playing the card of - cheap phones. But it won't help them long unless they come up with something innovative. But I doubt they will be even bother to think about innovation.

Anonymous, 08 Feb 2019More budget phone country, can't afford iPhones flagships etcThere ain't no career subsidising or career locking in India. So for flagships like an iPhone or Note 9, users are expected to pay over $1000 upfront. Which prevents them from selling a lot.

Anonymous, 08 Feb 2019More budget phone country, can't afford iPhones flagships etcYes that is true. India is still a poor country but its the fastest growing economy. Phone companies know that if they play their cards right they can make a big impact in the country.
One plus is not a cheap phone but it sells very well in India.

[deleted post]I think US and few other countries are restricting Xiaomi to officially sell their phones, thus Apple and Samsung are still happy making huge profits there.
If there is open competition among Chinese, Korean and US brands even in those countries, I am sure, the market scenarios will appear different within 6 months there too
Apart from that, yes, India is still developing country and majority of population still has budget constraints, but still it is fastest growing economy and most brands see huge potential there to offer & sell their products
