These flagship phones have the same camera as the budget (e.g. Mi Note 7) phones. Either the Samsung or Sony variant.

Would the pictures still be better on the flagship somehow? Genuine question.

Lol its just... moreHere's a taste of what a 1/2", 48MP, f/1.7 sensor (GM1) in a EUR150 phone can do as compared to a 24MP f/1.7 in a EUR600 phone. And mind you that while the budget device's chipset can't handle taking photos at the sensor's native resolution, it still gets all the light and picture quality binned, sorry Tetracelled (as it's a Samsung), into a crisp 12MP photo that crushes the native 24MP of the much more expensive device.

2019 looks to be pretty good in the camera dept. for smartphones.

48mp sensor with the quality of a 24MP 2/2 af. Lol its just only a number still doesn't have the quality of 48MP.

All mid range manufacturers this year will use a sensor with size that's at least 1/2.55" large and much higher resolution than 12MP

                Then here comes HTC....

This 48MP sensor seems like the popular choice for a lot of these phones. Good to know we're finally getting rid of those 12MP sensors that have plagued the smartphone world since 2016...

After getting downscaled, we'll still end up with 12MP images, but at least we'll get more detail & less noise thanks to pixel binning.

Dual camera 16MP + 5MP OIS and depth sensor setup is more than enough for me. Smartphone cameras nowadays are crazy. 5 cameras, 56MP, monochrome, black and white, wide angle and blah blah blah.. Gonna end up like Samsung A7. 3 back cameras but the image quality is meh.
