All photos look better after being downscal... moreTrue, but here, the situation is a little different... Resizing is just removing small abnormailities.
Here, in binning, the inputs from 4 pixels are combined at the sensor level, before any JPG image is created...
It should increase the shutter speeds, and decrease the ISO noise, as the total light from 4 pixels adds up...

Odd commentary on these shots. The dog photo in particular is practically a watercolour painting even if you downscale it to 12mp.

"Those pictures are compressed by Weibo, not directly from the camera. The originals will show more details."

Well, the imx586 will be heavily used in 2019.
Many devices shall bring it.
If the default setting is the 48MP, files will be more than 15MB.

Zooming in as mush as one click releals agressive noise suppression and lack of sharpness on all of the photos. Nothing to be proud of.

The photos are nothing special... Too much noise reduction and smudging going on... giving the appearance of something slightly better than an oil painting effect. Does not even come anywhere close to matching the quality of Honor View 20's Ultra Clarity mode.

Honestly, the camera seems average. Dynamic range is ok-ok. Detail is below average. There's a water oil painting type look when you zoom in the background, suggesting heavy post-processing.
NOTE: These are 48 MP images, I strongly believe 12MP mode will be a lot better...
But, on a personal note, its heartbreaking to see those dogs in cages. They belong in homes, not cages. Just a thought though.
And the crab belongs to the sea... But of course, good that GSMArena mentioned it.
