Qualcomm's new X55 modem supports 5G speeds up to 7Gbps, but also LTE

3G and 2G as well. The X50 was a 5G-only modem and its top speed is 5Gbps.

So basically what will happen with the Galaxy S lineup which used Snapdragon for USA(and another few countries) and the Exynos version for the rest of the world?
Also the Exynos models from which company do they get their modems?

It's actually 800MHz, not 8000MHz, based on the specifications from Qualcomm. But other than that, it's basically a slight upgrade over it's predecessor, it ain't that different from the Qualcomm X50 modem after all. Assuming that it is going to be coming with high-end flagships packing the SNAPDRAGON 855 this fall, it's not surprising to see a slight price increase over the already expensive price found on those 5G smartphones that's about to be released probably in MWC

Phylyp, 19 Feb 2019Is there a timeline as to when 5G will be integrated into S... moreNo it wont!!!! Good if the CPU is only used on phones but it is also used on tablets, chromebooks, etc. devices that are usually used only with WIFI and optional Network to lessen the costs.

Also it saves battery life and lessens overheating the phone.

I think Qualcomm can drop the legacy (2G) support. There is no place in the earth that no 3G/4G at this time & for those who already bought that expensive phone, they want internet.

No manufacturers bought Qualcomm standalone modem as much as Apple. So this x55 must wait for the next snapdragon to become and user products.

Phylyp, 19 Feb 2019Is there a timeline as to when 5G will be integrated into S... moreYou have to fab the APs at 5 nm process or below to integrate 5G modems.

5G modems are rather large and generate lots of heat, making them unsuitable for single chip integration at 7 nm process level.

Is there a timeline as to when 5G will be integrated into SOCs instead of requiring a separate chip?

What about actual speed? They made the same tall claims during 4g.

                                  Qualcomm is on fire!

So every phone sold this year will be out of date. Assuming any large take up of 5G. Will probably take years for it to hit more rural areas.
