Sony Xperia 1 has the first 4K OLED mobile screen, is first Sony with triple camera

This is a successor to the Xperia XZ Premium phones and not an "XZ4". There's no Compact version.

On such a small screen difference between QHD or olded and 4K will be noone.

        You still watch TV? in 2019?
        I'm the type that will watch movies only on my smartphone. In fact, I barely turn on the PC if I think about it.
        It's so much more comfortable and easy to use. Plus I can walk around the house, walk the dogs, go shopping and still watch movies :)
        My friends 3D TV is gathering dust .I should sell it.

Ultra tall (ultra narrow) aspect ratios, although they are good for cinematic purposes, suck miserably for another functions, for example, maps are better in squarish aspect ratios On the other hand, I doubt people prefer to watch an entire movie on a phone instead of cast on their TVs (that by the way have the aspect ratio of 16:9 in most cases).

                  3840 x 1600p deliver 4k for ascpect ratio 12:5, marketed as 21:9 aspect ratio
                  same as 3440 x 1440p 4k for 43:18 marketed as 21:9..

                  Video streaming service use 2,39:1 aspect ratio who match for 21:9..
                  however 2,39:1 aspect ratio match for 3840 x 1600p resolution..

                  Xperia 1 display use 3840 x 1644 match for 3840 x 1600p for 4k video streaming service..

                  its why sony cinema wide accepted for 21:9 display patent..

                    Meanwhile 2:1 aspect supported by what...0,01. % of total movies made? Any other theatrical movie... just enjoy your 5mm fat slits on your 2:1 screen. With a notch or a speck as a special feature.

Pers... moreNo!!!. the aspect ratio of this phone is 320:137 or 2.33576642:1 (Don't repeat the stupid "21:9" denomination, because it does not clarify anything), and the aspect ratio of films is commonly the 2.39:1, so, it's not exactly the same and the film will be boxed or cropped anyway. On the other hand most Netflix and Amazon originals are in Univisium format, EXACTLY 2:1 aspect ratio (a.k.a. 18:9).

                        njsilva84, 26 Feb 2019What's the point of having a 4k smartphone screen? Most of ... moreTrust me, there definitely is a difference. I'm using S8+ and I can tell between HD+ and WQHD+. Things look sharper and better.
                        The idea behind the 4K displays is that you can actually see the 4K video you record straight on your phone in it's native resolution, instead of turning on the pc, copying the video and watching it on a 4K display.
                        Other than that you don't have to worry because Android knows when to switch from 4K to WQHD+ so it doesn't overkill the processor, gpu and the battery.
                        Quit whining and go buy a cheap china brand if you don't like it.

                          The 4k name comes from the fact that the cinema aspect ratio of that resolution standard has more than 4000 pixels horizontally, the 16:9 format however only offers 3840. the height however because of the :9 aspect being the same would be 2160pixels in both cases.
                          This phones throws all standards out the window, and uses the 16:9 horizontal resolution, that isn't even 4000, for calling it 4K, but the height then follows the width and doesn't match that of the 4K standard. Meaning that this display can't display either 4K 16:9 films or 4K 21:9 films in native resolution.
                          Such a stupid idea. One of the great things about 4K resolution is that it scaled both 720p and 1080p evenly, where a 1080p screen could not properly show 720p as it was only 1.5 times the resolution, and a full multiple. 4k is 2x2 that of 1080p and 3x3 that of 720p. This pretend 4K display doesn't have that advantage, it scales neither 720p nor 1080p evenly.

                            I'm waiting sony smartphone with model classi C901 have alpha numeric keypad, big camera resolution with xenon and led flash, 5G internet connection and os android 9 or windows 10 with usb mhl or micro HDMI.

                                  Even with 4K display it will be extra fast. Wait and see.

                                    No notch is a plus but i think the 4k screen is overkill ...

                                      So happy Xperia 1. But late (4 months later) lack of Jack 3,5. Purple is gorgeous and like first serie Z. Memory without SD is 128gb or 64 ? (not all informations are the same)
                                      Support because only Japanese company in Europe for Mobile.
