The 16:9 split to two will become narrow that's why 21:9 can split into two with youtube video on top and the bottom is remain the 16:9 for main contents. I think 21:9 must be the maximum size and won't get any taller after this plus it is suitable for cinema movie playback and split screen and gaming view fields. 16:9 display ratio has shorter display which is not enough view field for movie and gaming.

Shui8, 27 Feb 2019That split screen long exist on Huawei Mate 9 / Honor 8 pro... moreits more on the usability of that feature. having a taller screen allows you to get more decent split areas and thus more practical. for example, say youve got a video playing on the top end of the screen and you split it, you still end up with something like an aspect ratio of 16:9 or so at the bottom to use/ you can still see more content and type instead of having an awkward split box left.

That is more flexible. Basically u can just shoot people using it without even select what area want to be focus because it can be adjusted later.

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2019It is originally samsung's feature. Sony is just a copycat. No, Samsung doesn't patent it, although Sony has patent 3layer stacked camera sensor, Samsung has copy it after that, too shame still 720p slow motion video. Sony has autofocus on eye will Samsung copy it later.

Ill still buy this phone even without those current trends mentioned above. Unless one brand will finally make a phone with built-in x-ray, ultrasound, mri, aircon. Etc....
Its a tall phone but i don't mind. sony engineers designed it with a purposes so if you want to change it then build your own one! Mthrfck!.. Camera is not good they said, yes its not a good choice for you if you belong to this kind of social media instagram thing kind of person who wants to look pretty, Smoother skin, baby face, black wants to turn white and white to transparent. Sony camera phone is not design for point and shoot they focus more on detail and what you see is what you get. Anyways will see how once the final unit is available..kudos to sony for creating " the world's first" again.

I expect regular 18:9 phone sucessor by sep/oct announced at IFA 2019, however, the focus could be different, this xperia 1 obviously for amuteur film making and die hard film fans, but the sucessor model could make a walkman focus phone for 40th year anniversary of walkman, 15mm thick with 4.4mm balanced output, 3.5mm unbalanced output, 15mm is needed for the large os-con capicators and a snapdragon 855 with 8gb ram, the twin camera from zx2 premium is fine, may it's just called xperia 1 walkman and it will be pinnancle of phone and DAP sound quality combined, they only have to borrow ideas from onkyo DP-CMX1 granbeat but use a flagship system on a chip and better ui
