Although I do agree that these ridiculously high resolutions are useless for a smartphone (Full HD's more than enough), but saying that you don't need to multitask is just plain dumb. What if I want to watch a YouTube video AND browse my favourite web site at the same time? A taller display is much more useful in a smartphone than a wider one, and much more practical too. Whether you love or hate Sony with all of your being, that's the truth.
Plus, innovations in the smartphone space have long dried up, which is why we're seeing more and more gimmicks such as the foldable phone (very cool idea on paper and as a prototype, but I don't see much use for it in real life, I'd much rather carry a tablet with me along with my phone), much more premium materials and more and more cameras. And that applies to every single maker in the smartphone game, from Apple to Sony, from Samsung to Xiaomi.

Redmi phones are built in India, much cheaper than other places. Miui has adds, which brings them money. Most of their phones use Isocell, cheaper than Exmor.
Except L series, all Xperia use DDR4. Better having 4Gb ddr4 than 6Gb ddr3.
