For mobile phone, below 280 ppi is not quite good. But for tablet, minimum 265 ppi just like iPad Retina is quite good because of that viewing distance I said.

Cost 3 times more then the 100 euro range redmi series to 6 was good in screen size,
but still had large bezels so it was 147mm tall. While the Mi 9 SEhais 5.97 inch screen and is same 147mm tall. Or Mi 8 SE that is 260 euro range with SD710 and amoled screen. No 3.5mm jack tough and notch.

Its like you go to buy cake and there is only cackes in 1kg size. And tell people that smaller cake peaces does not sell.

I use redmi 3 and would not buy shovel instead. Plenty of people use compact phone, compact does sell and well. Even expencive ones like iphone se models. People even will buy compact phone despite lower tech specs. Its so funny or ugly to see people walking around big phone in pants pocket, it does look weirdo.

Why no compact? Because it doesn't sell as much and multi use for redmi 6.2" frame will bring down the production cost as it cause less material variation.
720p for 6.2"? So it will be barely 200+ ppi? Not good, but its not that bad either. My old tablet is at 220 ppi and look pretty decent. Not to mention 3900mAh, 720p screen, 14nm chipset would give great battery life

They will call me ancient, but I love its compact size, the hardware navigation buttons for that full screen experience and the battery life. In fact, I like a bit of bezels, if they have useful features on them. Only now, its security updates have reduced.
I can't buy a new phone these days because my only options are notches and holes, curved screen corners and 6+ inch screen sizes. Besides, what's the point of such a huge screen with such a low quality resolution. Provide a smaller screen at a low resolution if you want to cut costs. And most phones are hitting the 180-200gms weight, which ruins the point of a hand-held, mobile device.
A 5.4 to 5.6 inch 18:9 phone with minimal bezels, no notches and holes, side fingerprint reader, hardware nav buttons, single camera, an entry level 4xx or 6xx chipset, preferably USB C (1.0 to cut costs) is what the Redmi 7 should have been. It's painful to see OEMs having a a million devices between 6.1 and 6.5 inches and calling it a choice.

And there go my hopes of switching to a compact Redmi phone. I really don't get why they'd release this phone when there are innumerable other alternatives to this. I was thinking about opting for this instead of Redmi Note 7 pro because I'm sick of these huge, bulky phones. I hope they release a better compact offering in the shape of Redmi 7 pro.
