Meizu Zero crowdfunding crashes spectacularly, only 29 people backed the idea

06 March 2019
The Indiegogo campaign was just a marketing stunt and there are no plans for mass production.

IMO it would be a nice concept, because why choose half-a$... baked Chinese-style (Xiaomi Oppo many others wink wink, Apple Sony etc. aren't far off) compromises when you can go all in? After all, side squeezing has been around for quite long (Mi4c from 2015 definitely had side squeezing), wireless charging was around >5 years before The Rotten Fruit(tm) "innovated" it, you could probably implement a protocol to pair the wireless plate inside the phone with a magnetic dongle of any kind (even without pins!), etc. And the need for a notchy, slider or UFO selfie camera could easily be cured with a second screen like one on the Pro 7 (Plus). Same goes for the speaker. If anything, the absolute future with zero top and bottom chins could be made possible even with a classic, just rounded at the corners, 16:9 display. For absolute "no-hole" water proof, they could put a wireless earbud or a tiny wireless speaker with a shirt/jumper/jacket clip inside the retail box, or make the phone spew out rainbows and vibrate like an earthquake (Nokia 3310 wink wink wink) when a notification arrives xD
Pardon me for the rant, sir/madam :)

Yup. I expected this. We aren't in the future yet. Also, a hole-less phones just makes no sense at all. I mean, I can sacrifice an SD card slot or a jack, but no holes? Not even buttons? How do you expect people to change that fast? Also, that pricing is just impractical. Get a freaking Gaming Laptop instead. You could do that. Why waste money on something like this?

Luxor, 07 Mar 2019That is not how IP rating works buddy. Yup, at least Meizu should make this crap IP69K-compliant, or MIL-STD-810H-certified.
That way, this crap would be accepted in niche market where Panasonic Toughbook/Toughpad resides for a long time.

So Maizu flat out admits they have abused and misused the platform meant for helping individuals and small companies to kickstart their products? "Hey, thanks for supporting our marketing stunt with your money! Enjoy your half-assed product we may not even deliver and definitely won't update!"

Classy move, Meizu! Way to go!

I don't get the idea of this phone. If it had magnetic port for charging and PC connectivity it might be more applicable. And at that price point without offering something exceptional it was really nonsense. In the design aspect it is uglier than currently available Meizu devices, so this is fair public judgment.

What is the point of contributing to something that won't get updates? They don't even update their current flagship.

So 29 out of hundreds of millions of potential customers supported this scheme, that admittedly was nothing but a marketing trick for the worst, most uninnovative idea for a smartphone in ages anyway.
