Is this suppose to give anything new? Other than Android's growth, RIM's downfall and iOS' stale status, plus the minute Symbian/WP7 population it's the same like other charts before. I'm more interested in the 2012 chart actually.

its gud nokia is with windows...symbian failed poorly..the success of android is all based on symbian's failure...updates. Android is growing and will keep growing bcos the OS is always been updated. Android will last for too long. The only way to beat android is impossible..get the google boys to stop the updates...Android forever.

Rick James, 30 Dec 2011Android only have a few years of existence. How many year h... moreI am talking of Samsung trolls in every other community in the web.....no to Android folks.. I myself own 2 Android phones..moto and SE....
but I have to say, who else is out there who is using symbian right now?????? SE used 4-5 years ago...and the last model was, if I am remembering correctly, was the P1i....
I would like Android to grow...because even it is unstable right now, it has the capability to be the greatest OS in the mobile arena...same as Symbian....
Symbian doesnot have the flourish but much much more stable....Android is the other way round....

But I really really hate Samsung and mostly because of the Sammy Fanboys and trolls, which are really a lot these days...

Then again its usa again when most of the world exists you know..usa only accounts for a small proportion of handsets sold (even then on expensive 2year contracts)..Its the emerging markets, Europe ,etc that make up the biggest share and thats Nokia..

Wow, what a big fail for Microsoft, loosing market share with platform they "upgraded" :D Hopefully they will realize the mistake and make proper Windows Phone OS, leave off the limitations, just make true Windows for a phone, it's not hard with today's hardware is it?

These figures will all be different next year when Nokia makes its triumphant return to the US market and lifts WP7 to the top single handedly. Android will suffer a huge decline and the airwaves will be bombarded with Nokia commercials. Nokia will be a huge hit in the US and people will soon forget about Apple, Samsung, HTC, and Moto.

It's healthy for companies to have someone to compete with, we'd still be in caves eating grubs if we didn't want to beat the guys in the next cave over to whatever food was lying about. If Apple manages to stop Android from being in the US I'm sure that will just increase the amount of people buying them online from overseas.

                            Rant over.

Once iOS vs Android is over , Android vs Android starts i.e, OEM wars like Samsung vs HTC or Moto vs Samsung etc.

If one dominates completely then its not good.
Even iPad market also should be decreased to 50% or so or else others find it difficult to show their ideas.

Its all making about $$$ at the end , every company needs $$ no matter what.

Great news, apple talks of burying android, how they going to do that when it's on 50% of smartphones?

Besides, Having at least two platforms helps innovation, you think IOS/android would be trying to improve their software so fast if they didn't have the other to compete with. No we would have gotten a slow trickle of new features in order to maximize revenues, people who think apple is some benevolent entity make me laugh inside, maybe if people took some of the money they spend on their Ipad/eeepad transformer they'd realize what this game is about, making $$$ and lots of it
