      5g will revolutionise game streaming

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2019No, 80ms latency will definitely not work for multiplayer s... moreNo, 80ms is acceptable and what you typically get on home consoles (or lower).
PC Gaming is usually lower, and high-end rigs get even tighter timings. And there is the phenomenon, that once you have acclimated to using high refresh rates and low latency, anything else just feels unresponsive and wrong.

Gaming on current Android Games with a Bluetooth Controller, you experience latency around 120ms. And there aren't many people complaining about latency specifically for mobile gaming (I'm one of the few).

So a 80ms experience won't be great, but it would be good and acceptable for a portable machine/experience. Asking for more isn't possible unless you're using some serious hardware under the hood, and are using a really fast (or even private) internet connectivity.

Kangal, 13 Mar 2019That figures totally off. To get a "decent" experience, yo... moreNo, 80ms latency will definitely not work for multiplayer shooters and such (fast-paced games).

With that latency, any FPS at all will have the rubber-band syndrome where you immediately feel that the display is not following your movements.

Kangal, 13 Mar 2019That figures totally off. To get a "decent" experience, yo... moreyou for get the input lags inbetween.

30kms network latency is acceptable, but when there is iput lag, then its not a good experience. I get thisnon both PS4 and Nintendo Switcjh when used wirelessly..and in fast games input lag is noticeable.

Put intogeth streaming agmes services (looking at you Sony), any lags in steream makes games almost unplayable. This may not be your actual network but the service provider side...or eve the console itself just not being able to handle things. I play on 144fps/1080p/30ms on online FPS. with KB&M. As soon as I have around 60-70ms (due to changing regions for example from EU to NA) same game is unplayable on the level I would normally play.

Problem is on consoles and mobile you would be looking similar sort of issue. The guys is sort of right in saying anything higher than 30ms is not playable...in a very fast games. Also you saying 720p/2fps is playable is luaghable because 24 fpsis very choppy. Ps4 with stable 30fps in some games are choppy. Playing that is just downright awful

JimRyan, 13 Mar 2019Sadly xbox doesn't have any good games....It has lesser games than ps but all of the games are of very high quality.
              None of them are bad.
I play Forza Motorsport 6 and Forza horizon 3 and their graphics are amazing and the range of cars is mind boggling.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2019Anything slower than a 30ms "motion-to-photon" roundtrip wi... moreThat figures totally off.
To get a "decent" experience, you'd want to have 720p/Low Settings/24fps visuals and a button-to-action latency of 80ms.... for a portable!

Basically, if you pull the trigger in the game, it should take 0.08 seconds (or less) for the muzzle to flash, even if the image is updated every 0.042 seconds (or less). So the image should change within 2 frames average (variance of 1-3 frames) of the video feed.

Higher-end desktop experience is roughly 1440p/Ultra Settings/90fps visuals with 20ms button-to-action latency. That is, 0.02 seconds for the muzzle flash, as the game updates the image every 0.011 seconds. Meaning, again the image should change within 2 frames average (variance 1-3 frames) of the video feed.

I hope this service will be available to people who don't own an xbone.
P.S. microsoft should manufacture a phone mount for their own controller (as did Sony) and not rely on this weak 7$ chinese mount as in these pictures.

I'd prefer the traditional gaming setup anyway. This is a solution to what's not a problem.

Anything slower than a 30ms "motion-to-photon" roundtrip will be nausea-inducing and unplayable for all fast-paced games.

For the vast majority of people, the global internet infrastructure is nowhere near sufficient for this. The only people who could benefit from this today are people who live in the first world, and very close to the where the services are housed and run from.

It could work with some use of fog computing. However crypto/blockchains are in their period of demonization (I.e. accumulation phase) so we have to wait 2-3 years (next crypto boom) for decent implementations of fog computing to see actually useful versions of game streaming (I.e. streaming from your neighbour who is "mining" some coin and not from a distant server; therefore have your latency cut to almost zero).

Wow sooo innovative, PlayStation has had this for eons as mentioned by gsmarena
