Sony Xperia 1 is on Amazon for $1,000, but it's likely a publicity stunt

13 March 2019
The listing has a ridiculous shipping date, price will likely to go down for the proper launch.

Xperia's never cost above 900$! that's insane... moreYou are literally complaining about a $100 increase that is better than any other phone they've released that cost $800-$900. Sony Xperia Z5 Premium was $850 new. This phone is better and newer. $1k seems about right.

Yeah wireless charging is a joke. I was really into it like 6 YEARS ago when it was new lol, but now we have Quick Charge which is not only way faster but no heat on the battery either, which will degrade it much more quickly over time.

Well those are pretty reasonable expectations for sure!

Yeah the 4 sounds like a good match for what you're looking for. For me, I feel like the big differentiator between phones is no longer screen size or quality, battery life, etc..........it's camera quality. And that tends to be best in flagships, which is why I want the 1. It will have OIS finally thanks to this new Sony Mobile CEO pushing for more involvement from their Sony TV (for screen) and Camera departments, and per the experts, OIS will help improve low-light and nighttime shots. So I'm VERY excited about that! lol

Plus Samsung phones' tend to oversaturate photos, aka warmer color tones which are not always color accurate, where Sony Xperias tend to be VERY color accurate. And now with them FINALLYYYYYYYY including OIS on their flagships, nighttime/low light shots will be superior as well I'm sure.

Same goes for wireless charging... its too slow to be practical to me in any way.

All I care for in a mobile is good enough SoC, good screen, camera, sound, and reliable battery that ll last me through a day at least, for 2-3 yrs with minimal degradation.
No notches or specks on screen, I dont care for biggest maH batteries either if they dont use some kind of battery degradation protection, also I couldnt go back to mono speakers.
I guess I can live with different aspect ratios, oleds... although I dont prefer them. And I would really prefer a 3.5 mm jack, wireless is just not my cup of tea as sound enhancements dont work over bt, and an adapter is a drawback for me.
So, some 5.5inch screen version of Xperia 1 with a jack, and even a sd710 SoC, would be sth Id waste my money on, but not more than 700 e.
I can buy even the 1000 e one, but... I just dont wanna give that much money for a mobile device, out of mere principle.

I was considering to buy the S10+, but after watching some videos on YouTube, I don't think I can use a phone with that double punch hole camera. It ruins everything!
If you look carefully, you get more screen with the S9+!

I think I'm going to buy Xperia 1. I absolutely adore that tall display!
Haters keep bashing because they can't afford one. That's the only reason.
There's literally nothing to say bad about this phone.

Too much overpriced $1000 is too expensive for sony xperia 1. My calculations predict that the normal price for this phones is about $600 no more than that. With $600 sony has created profit for selling this phone so why would it be $1000 unreasonable price.

Publicity stunt or not, that is one hefty price tag. Sure, it costs as much as a GALAXY S10+, but with the omission of Qi Wireless Charging, I don't even think it should cost that much. USD900 seems kind of reasonable to be honest

Tann Hauser, 13 Mar 2019Hola. Still rocking my X Performance, 2yrs now. Guess I l... moreX Performance eh? Nice. How's it holding up?

Yeah I'm kinda bummed the 1 only has ONE front-facing speaker vs. the usual two. But given my 6T only has ONE BOTTOM-FIRING speaker, I'll still take it as an upgrade. It def sux (6T) for watching videos, snaps, etc cuz it's like trying to listen to someone who's facing the wall with someone else in b/t you two. lol As for the headphone jack, I have been using an adapter with my 6T for car listening (for headphone I use the iFi xDSD via BT, but it connects to my headphones via cable, so only semi-wireless), so I'm already used to it.

My main issue with my old X Performance was the battery life was surprisingly and seemingly weak compared to my old Z3. (Maybe I should've used Stamina Mode more? lol Or maybe I just had a bad model? Who knows.) It didn't have T-Mobile VoLTE too which was fine at first, but then when my area got it, I decided I wanted a phone that was VoLTE-compatible too. I kept it for a while but eventually got other phones (HTC 10, then LG V30, then 6T). I actually got the XZ3 last Fall when it came out, but despite the screen and body being much nicer than the XZ2 Premium, its camera was a good 2 steps behind the XZ2 Premium's, so I returned it.

I used to hate large screens too TBH, but when phones started transitioning to 18:9, I found that ratio allowed for a bigger screen but smaller body, which really changed my opinion. So I honestly think 21:9 is the next (and final?) evolutionary step for smartphones. The fact that movies and even recent movie trailers on YouTube are being put out in 21:9, as well as Sony partnering with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube to have more 21:9 content created, tells me this is the future and that Sony's bold enough to be one of the first (LG BL40 was first 10 years ago) to take on the challenge. I think you will like an 18:9 or esp 21:9 phone more than you think brotha. lol

So yeah besides the 1 I may look at the OnePlus 7 as well as the Huawei P30 Pro, but I have some issues with both so not sure. One thing is I really love the face unlock on the 6T, which is a separate feature from the universal Android one found on most Android phones. It's fantastic. The XZ3 used the universal one, and it wasn't that great or consistent. I'm hoping they've improved it for the 1 somehow. We'll see. I'm prob gonna either try it out at Best Buy or buy it off Amazon and compare it to my 6T and then decide from there.

If you do not like the brand, it is ok. But do not fool yourself saying copycat companies are better. Increasing RAM and ROM memories are no innovation, just forcing other to use too which makes prices go up.

16:9 screen, WRGB screen (Xperia P) , 4K, 4K HDR, 10bit, 4K HDR oled, since Xperia X almost all Xperia (1080p or above) are 120Hz (60 out of box , locked by kernel).

Hybrid AF ( CDAF/PDAF) with M5 , bokeh with one rear camera with z2, scene recognition , stacked cmos used for true 960fps 1080p, predective capture ( full resolution and AF), burst with AF ( none else has), less rolling shutter, anti distortion shutter ( blur free), 4K HDR Hybrid Log Gamma ( needs stacked sensor) and 4K 21:9 , real time image fusion with AUBE, 12800 iso for video.

M4 came with capless USB, no more flap there. M2, M4 and M5 were waterproof.
Xperia C had voice command to help you take selfie with rear cam. XA Ultra selfie with OIS.

Sony cares with after 2 or 3 years your battery will still performing well. They provide techs like adaptive charging to prevent battery from overchaging. Another tech from Qnovo to give extra cycles compared to regular battery.

Their apps are great: album, video and music.

Besides S10 5G, only Xperia 1 has gorilla glass 6 on both sides. Most use GG5 for rear or both. The low end Xperia L3 has ddr4 ram, nfc, usb c and Gorilla 5 on front. Many midranges out there using GG3, micro usb and ddr3 ram.
