Somebody said that it make sense only for media consumers, but the rest does not care. Well, that implies that actually, there is a market for it.

Let us be real, it has a real use case for avid readers and media watchers . For those who don't read and generally don't mind the tiny screen of phones it is sure not a choice (this phone I mean) but for the rest of us foldable is the next revolution on mobiles.
Next 2 iterations would be attrociois (like this one). But 3rd one would be a no brainer IMO. Especially if we start getting those slick 3 folded pieces that Westworld was sporting. I mean a 6 inch bezeless phones (so as small as iPhone 6) that unfolds into a 10 inches tablet. That would be the dream. Buy buy tiny phone screens, say hello to proper reading and movie/series watching.

Convergence has been a big selling point for most phones as you get more features and more power in them so they are currently good for calls, apps, games, internet browing, videos and music etc. but my personal opinion is that if I wanted to read from one (like a book or a comic etc.) then I'm not a fan of the screen size and tend to move towards a tablet whereas foldable phones can offer that changing size to get the form factor you need that is changeable depending on what you want to do.
Overall it's not necessary but I can see phones being a good all purpose replacement for tablets in a few years time if the foldable tech becomes good enough.

Huawei and samsung presented theirs in the last mwc last month (feb) so how can they immediately copy it? They might have been doing their own r&d for years. Its just that samsung and huawei perfected it and ready to mass produce it first. Samsung or huawei wasnt even the first to roll out foldable phones, though it is forgettable.

I do not have first hand evidence for this but I believe that the Chinese companies do not value copyright. Huawei and Xiaomi, they have good financial strategies but most of them exploit the other markets and companies. Yep, they might be huge now but you will see, history will tell. If companies keep exploiting the other companies, they won't last for many years. They might have their luck but eventually, companies and governments will shut them down. What first hand experience I have with Chinese is they do not value the rights of others, they don't even know what right is. Older Chinese have higher moral standards and they know what they are doing. New generations mostly get rich in a short time, without the education needed to do so. This is not only a company thing but a country thing which affects the globe.

This design is utterly r3tarded. 2 folds that are all exposed??? How many times are you going to have to clean the screen where the lines are when you open it up (the sides when folded).
Plus the damage's from placing it on almost any surface that isn't 100% smooth like glass. Shame on you Xiaomi for ruining a good concept. BOO ON YOU!

They began to use ceramic backs a lot before Samsung started with S10+. The innovation in the slider mechanism using magnets should have come out of some R&D. So, don't just write off a company just because it is Chinese.

Thats why its cheap. I wonder when Xiaomi is gonna do something really new and innovating at the smartphone industry so we can really see how much they will charge. I dont hate Xiaomi i consider them as a good company. But if every one were copycats to keep it cheap then we wouldnt have these kind of tech today.

Sure. When you are just a copycat, and no expenditures for R&D your products should be cheaper. It should even cost 1/3rd of Samsung cause production costs are much lower compared to for say R&D.
