I've seen more than my share of android forums where people root their devices to do whatever.

Guess I'll go with WP7.
But does the limitations annoy you?

Microsoft signed a deal with Nokia for them to make the WP flag ship phones
So you would think the flag ship phone would get all updates first.

You had to go to the manufacture web site and look for your updates for windows mobile. It’s no longer that way in windows phone. Don’t compeer WM with WP it’s a totally different OS from the ground up.

Yomie, 06 Jan 2012Guys, Looking to get a new phone in 2012 and confused b/w ... moreget a high end android device and you won't have to worry about lag. Also play with the Galaxy Nexus and see how you like it, its currently the only device running in ICS(ice cream sandwich), this version of android has hardware acceleration enabled for UI and apps meaning it offloads work onto the GPU to deal with lag.

            Guys,
Looking to get a new phone in 2012 and confused b/w Android and WP Mango (no I'm *not* getting an iPhone)

Android is huge and therefore has millions of apps, different UIs and everything, but I don't like that some phones lag dispite dual-core processors and what not.

Mango on the other hand is slick and everyone says is smooth (haven't used one yet) which is exactly what I want, but things like no USB mass storage and basic things like needing an app to set ringtones sound so 1990.

I basically want a fast phone that doesn't keep me waiting, extensive browsing and document support and does what it says without having to root or whatever (I'm a user not a hacker)

            Any pointers?
            Thx!

Nokia and MS announced a partnership early 2011 which is what gave birth to the Lumia series of phones.

motorolla, HTC Samsung and other major manufactureers have to pay microsoft for evry android device they build because microsoft owns the patetns that are being used in WP7 and android. so they are actually paying to build a android phone just like WP7

Sails, 05 Jan 2012The great thing about WP updates is that you can actually c... moreSo many things wrong with this statement, but can't really expect anything out of a fanboy.

                    1. Microsoft is legally obligated to the manufacturers and the users to push updates to their platform as the manufacturers and end users paid a license fee with Microsoft to use WP7. Last I checked, manufacturers don't pay Google a dime to use Android, so Google aside from pushing out latest updates to their own Nexus lines don't need to make sure Samsung, Motorola, LG, and et al gives their customers the latest updates. Besides if you really wanted to get ICS you would just root it and get it much faster than the manufacturer's bring it to their devices.

                    2. Just to let you know the HD2 was actually promised to get WM7, however microsoft felt that the name Windows Mobile was already too tarnished and scrapped it and made Windows Phone 7, they also didn't bring it to the HD2 due to the HD2 being the last Windows mobile device and didn't want anything to deal with Windows Mobile, do you not realize that the HD2 is basically the foundation of all WP7 devices? Every WP7 must at the very least be as powerful as the HD2, for a good reason.

It is amazing how people keep praising Windows Phone, while such things are completely screwed up. Ahhwell, more intriguing is why LG got the update first, or better, why Nokia, MS' biggest WP buddy, is put at best second.
