AT&T dropped the ball so to speak this last few years. They should have started their Lte build out like Verizon did instead of continuing upgrading their so called "4G" gsm network. My Inspire hspa+ runs at speeds which are decent but is what 3G should have been two years ago. Verizon got it right by essentially stopping their 3G build and started with Lte. There are several Verizon towers around here which are still 3G but have been upgraded over the last few months awaiting the Lte switch to be flipped on. Now from what an AT&T tech told me many of their towers have been backhualed with fiber but have not had the Lte radios installed at the cell sites yet. So here in Michigan we will be waiting a while.

It wouldn't make much sense to cover Alaska in the initial stages of coverage. With Anchorage only being 300k, there are more densely populated areas that would serve more people...such as San Juan, Puerto Rico.

      Not to mention tourist populations.

A friend of mine, who lives in Miami, said he has LTE from AT&T already. This is the best thing to come out of the USA.
