I'm sure it has been discussed for some time. From what I see they are rolling a couple of functional updates to the app. As far as I am concerned when it's a useful feature I see no harm in multiple apps adding it, otherwise how can we have better apps?

I still don't see this an an option and I'm on the Android beta program. It's just not there in Privacy settings.

The groups feature is mentioned and that was what I really liked about it best. there are other useful new features in it as well..

but at least its not automatic join if we change the settings

Parents from my kid's school keep creating groups and chatting nonsense, so this is a welcome feature to keep pesky annoyances like that at bay
