Samsung had their chances to beat Nokia during last year but they faild even though this South Korean company has gained their market in ever best in mobiles arena.
But now we have to remember Nokia is keen to enter in US Market by joiinig another giant MS. So, I belive Nokia will flick in the top in selling of Smartphones this year.
And we always know Samsung phones can be hardly used for 1 year. But if you buy a Nokia you can be sure that would last least 3/4 years. In that sense I am very much interested to see how Samsung's Android based phone (sold during 2011) will last. That would be the prime measure to bet for Samsung. Other wise they will be thrown away as they were before 2010.

Anonymous, 11 Jan 2012this is especially true since samsung users turnover their ... moreIn my region, samsung is well known for its cheap phones which never last for more then 1 years. But on other side nokia phones survive at least 5 years. If nokia customers who brought any nokia phone in past 2 years replace their phone with new nokia phone, then am sure gap between nokia and samsung phone sales will be of lightyears.. ;) if you are a samsung's regular customer or fanboy whatever.. Then you need to change your phone every year.(bcoz. of Malfunction, bad support, no upgrades, etc)

With Google taking over Motorola Mobility, I would not put all my bet on Samsung just yet, Samsung may end up like the current HTC & Sony getting the Andoid update "late" the would spell slow death to Samsung, as Samsung is nothing without Android, Bada is hopeless & Tizen will drain Samsung coffer before it able to come into central stage.

I wonder what will happen if the innovators/originators of mobile phones files a patent lawsuit.

Samsung needs to increase it sales with 35-40% this year in order to overtake Nokia. It is highly unlikely they can do that. 20% increase is a much more likely figure.

AnonD-252, 10 Jan 2012With Symbian killed by Nokia they soon have no "budget... more-_- so much fail here.
* Sym^3 ("Symbian" or "Nokia OS") was not killed off by Nokia. Nokia was failing at development so they outsourced it to Accenture and thereby gave it a new lease on life.
* S40 is not Symbian. It's a highly refined, well-understood and extremely reliable featurephone OS that is not going anywhere soon and will continue to be a part of future Nokia featurephones (Asha review is still on the GSMA front page!).

It's simple really. Embracing the AndroidOS means selling loads and loads of phones. Samsung would surely be on top by next year. Also, Samsung will be taking over Meego, renaming it to Tizen, and use it in their feature phones.

Also agree that only minority which are the fanatic of techno craze that really craving for multiple cores and gigantic of RAMs.
But to honest, i just want a smartphone that are easy to use, does not hurt your wallet too much and looks nice.

Nokia Nokia Nokia, how I love thee.
I love the 3200, 3300 they have served me very very well.
But why have you become so expensive with one good feature missing in your phones while Samsung always offer the complete package at lower prices?

I think samsung need to be more cautious of SONY, who are about to release some amazing handsets over the coming months.
About 1% of the market lust a quad core phone, while the rest of us couldn't give a stuff as long as our device gets the job done e.g Receive and make calls, check E-mail and messages, the odd bit of web browsing on the way to work, in between lectures etc..
