Apple faces poor iPhone sales in Q2

Analysts predict shipped phones are 45 million at most, 10% less on a yearly basis.

Apple were already acknowledging their demise in smartphone sales. You can prove this by their recent sales pitch towards more paid services, which will allow them to generate more money even when the users won't upgrade phones, and the Apple credit Card which mainly aims for users to get locked down deeper inside Apple's own ecosystem.

    Smartphone market as a whole is.in decline if you go back to 2012 your flagships would not last more than 2 years after which it would lag, show issues, be outdated nowadays even a solid mid range with SD660 can last you atleast 3 years if you are not heavy user, for heavy users SD710 is capable and a flagship can last as long as 5 years before you can call it obselete and pricing are increasing without any innovation or something to justify the high price and people do not brag about brands anymore
    If it continues companies like Xiaomi, Realme, Honor will continue to grow while bigger players like Apple and Samsung will slowly decline
    Foldable phone is the breakthrough the smartphone world needs and I am sure many people will be holding on to their cash till they can afford them or.those become.more polished.

      More margin, less revenue same profits! That clearly indicates budget components, slow or no improvements (other than synthetic benchmark scores), very high prices....let Apple fans bankroll them until it lasts

Th... moreActually they are not good, but the newer ones are just not (much) better and sometimes even worse (In some aspects). I don't like my phone, but i won't replace it, because the newer models suck too. It's funny, but some people don't buy new phones, because they are happy with what they have and some don't, because they are not happy with what they have. Either way, current strategies are clearly starting to fail and manufacturers need to rething their policies. Too bad they are insane and completely out of touch with reality.

                    apple thinks selling your car to buy a phone that although is premium offers crappy value and is no longer the pinnacle of hi-tech will be an easy sell to customers ... the competition has added more innovation , more value , more flexiblity and options and the android eccosystem has matured to a much better position. Chinese companys are actually doing r&D and innovating . Customers have grown and are more aware and knowledgable. only those that are locked in, have deeper pockets and fealty to the apple brand stay.

                      There just isn’t much point to buy new phones from any brand when current ones are so good already. Nowdays you can go easily 3 years with your phone without hardly losing anything even if you are tech geek.

No one needs a new phone if they have a phone from a couple years ago. There's literally no need now, especially with prices so high. Like at this rate, I'd rather skip spending so much on a flagship over 2 years and that money could go onto a top of the line laptop, or pc, or anything else. I'm not spending $1,000+ to go on Instagram.

                          I guess we see the same in all the expensive part of the market.

                          There are nothing really new and market ready (foldable I guess is at the least a year or two away from being market ready for the broad market)

                          So people lack an incentive to buy a new expensive device, so they stay on the fence unless their device fails (e.g. due to planned obsolescence). And if needed likely buy a less than top model (any brand).

                          The only really new I have seen is actually the Pro¹ with a revival of the idea we had with e.g. the Nokia E7. And despite loving the idea myself, I know it is for a limited segment.

                          To me it would seem (almost) as crazy wasting money on one of the newest top models from Samsung as the newest aPple device, with what is offered in 2019.

                          In my view S8± is practically as good as S9± that is practically as good as S10± - so why waste the money on the newest? Except the poor souls in need of the bragging rights to boost their lacking self-esteem of course.

                          ...if anything many of the newer are getting worse with lack of 3.5mm and lack of SD-slots

                                        I think many people are holding onto their phones for longer than ever nowadays. I know I certainly am. Contracts also used to be 12 months a few years back also and nowadays they are 18 months or 2 years now (UK) This will affect sales too.
