imo the pics look okay but sony(ericsson) uses too much noise reduction in their cameras. pics look unatural at full resolution but if you decrease image resolution to lower mp, it will look better. I like a bit of noise in pics as in the old days of analog photography. I kno this isn't for serious photography and that's why it's more than good enough for daily snapshots.

Wow...

This phone is getting the ICS update between April-June, that's when will the new ICS out of the box phones be dropping, with a higher price and ofcourse have no reviews which means we will not know how good are they.

              This is a big concern...

Because this coupled with no ICS on launch...

It just smacks of either 'rushed' or just plain 'incompetence'...

Why are phones being released in 2012 with anything other than ICS? This is clearly the standard and has been around long enough now to come out of the box (especially considering these phones aren't being launched until March(ish) time. How far behind are Sony with their software?

It doesn't bode well... then of course when the software update DOES kick-in and it all crashes because everyone is downloading... the errors and glitches come in... ALL of which is resolved by SHIPPING IT WITH ICS!!!

Pictures has a lot of noise.
The same with with my xperia neo.
It's good to look at mobile, but not on computer.

I like test pictures of trees with leaves, thats where Samsungs supermegaultrapixel camfones always fail with absence of depth impression. Lets see if SE can do it better with their 12mpix model, or if the old Nokia N82 once again will prove that old tech 5mpix can still beat the newest and hottest. N8 could not match the N82s flash, so in many ways N82 is still the one to beat for the phone that want to claim the camphone throne

Strange, photo samples here are far too different in quality compared to the ones posted at PA.

                        What gives?

its really not that impressive! The pics lack a natural feel to it. SE had produced better camera phones and they have in their disposal better camera technology so I really don't see why would anyone be contented and be satisfied with these results

Pictures on PA and Xperia Blog have way less noise. I can take photos with my Nikon D700 and still have noise if I am a bad photographer.

Anybody who doesn't see the resolving power of that cam module - even through that jpeg compression - doesn't really understand camera image quality at all.

This is very good performance, esp. the low light ones.

Now, bring down the noise reduction (or make it selectable) and ease on the JPEG compression & post-processing and it will be brilliant.

Problem with Arc's camera is the very high jpeg compression which ruins a lot of the shots. I hope SE take care of this with the Xperia S. The Exmore R is a fantastic sensor, but unfortunately the software ruins everything...
