One thing I want them to implement is an unlocked camera api out of the box, just so Gcam can be installed easily on the phone and achieve better results.

As for the release of the product, it really doesn't make any sense.
If it would be released in June, then it'll only have like 3 to 4 months to be recognized as a major flagship before the next one comes out. That is if the phone that they'd announce at IFA will be better than the Xperia 1.

Anyway this is a LG article, so people might get annoyed already as to why do we talk about Sony here lol.

AnonD-558092, 02 May 2019Almost 4 months... That's waaaaay too long. People move on.... moreExactly. It doesn't matter how good the product is, it needs to be known to actually be able to sell

Don't get me wrong, that phone has a ton of potential as you said. Plus it showed Sony had some kind of Eureka moment and thought about integrating its greatest assets (Entertainment and Photography) into this declining division in hopes to bring it up. And it could have worked if
1- The device didn't get the Vaporware treatment of announcing its existence yet not having the product available
2- The integration was better executed (the pic soft/algorithms are objectively underwhelming, and they could have granted preferential/free access to Sony services such as Playstation Vue and VOD)

The 2nd problem could easily be forgiven however. One can always hope that could be coming afterwards or in the next iteration.

AnonD-558092, 03 May 2019You're saying that as if there was already someone at this... moreThe phone itself has so much potential to rise the whole division up from a major drought, but it always appears that they will somehow mess up one thing on an otherwise perfect product.
Considering last year's Q1 XZ2 flagships came out early enough, they at least had enough time to gather the hype for the XZ3, which is a good show if it came with good marketing tricks to the people.
Xperia is surely closing down in the next 5 years at this rate, at which everything is simply falling down.
Last year marks the weakest sales of Xperia devices, and this year could be even worse.

I wanted to say the Xperia 1 is DOA but it kinda died before it arrived, no thanks to that BRB quitter.

Advertisements? I only see their ads in their very own pages.
I don't know who runs their marketing team, but they seriously need to get fired.

It's not as if the phone has something spectacular that makes it difficult to manufacture to take that long to get released.
Yet they want to be very successful? Man I'm crying

What is this mania for updates when updates in most cases bring new bugs and do not give any major improvements like longer battery life or better performance. What usually changes is that you get new OS and interface and that's it. If you buy a car that was made in 2010 and is brand new, is it that worse compared to a brand new car from 2019? I don't think so. They will both do the same - take you from A to B. Same with phones. Updates just require more and more resources and make your old phone feels like old even though it could actually still deliver. It was proven even for Apple that their updates were slowing on purpose older phones. So why do you need updates? I really don't get this crazyness with updates.

Walter C. Dornez, 02 May 2019I think that's part of why Xperia doesn't sell. The hype is... moreAlmost 4 months... That's waaaaay too long. People move on. Also there's been barely any communication about the Xperia 1 ever since. The non-fanboys will eventually forget and pick another device

I would support LG instead of Samsung.
But I only use Sony devices

I still miss the V20. I got it exactly two years ago (May 2, 2017). What's cool is my Pixel 3 arrives today. So it's become the V20's spiritual successor.

I sold my V20 for like $200, so getting the Pixel 3 was like getting it for only $250. I hear there are quite a number of bugs with the Pixel 3. I'm probably stick to my Essential Phone as the main phone. Use the Pixel 3 as the multimedia player like I did with the V20.

My biggest knock with my V20 was the size. I couldn't stand it. It was so tall and wide. And I thought having it next to my G5 was a little redundant. So my main daily pairing will be two stock Android devices.

Left holster - Essential Phone (has the sim)
Right holster - Google Pixel 3

Since I heard the Pixel 3 has poor battery and the call issues, it's better off with no sim since I tether daily. I just couldn't stand using my iPhone SE and very laggy Moto E4 to do DoorDash that I needed a Pixel 3 to replace them both.

I think the V20 was the last great phone LG made. It's been downhill for them ever since.
