OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro won't have an IP rating for water and dust resistance because it's expensive

03 May 2019
The company chose to buy a bucket instead, and dunk one of its new phones in it.

People likes to argue what OnePlus doesn’t have, but OnePlus users never having problem with the user experience

Shadocx, 04 May 2019And how much was it priced when it came out? I'm not talkin... morePrice cuts are very relevant here, samsung phones usually drop i price quite a lot just few months after release, why oneplus pretty much remains same price. I dont care what is in you imagination, but you said you cant buy a phone sub 600 with ip rating in 2019 and im just stating that you wrong lol.

"OnePlus that the 7 and 7 Pro will be fine if they're dunked in a bucket"
The video clearly states (in small font on the bottom): water damage is not covered by warranty. In other words: they won't replace it in case of water damage.

They didn't exactly state IP rating is expensive, only the fact it costs money. Even if certification adds up to $0.01 per phone, it is still less expensive to purchase a single bucket if you plan to make and sell more than 1.000 phones.

I'll look for a phone with IP rating, thanks for info, OnePlus. And I want my IP certified phone to have a 3.5mm jack. Paying $100 more for a certified phone that is guaranteed to survive a drop into water is cheaper than paying $600+ for a phone that won't survive that drop. The drop into water itself is unlikely, but stuff happens, so I'd prefer to be on a safe(r) side.

Phone gets also expensive if you dip it into water. Even if not intended sometimes phone just get into contact, its too late then to regret...

Vic4BBM, 04 May 2019My immediate family had 3 OP devices and all plagued with l... moreThat's just ur personal exp then. All around the internet u will find reviews from experts and users alike praising OP for their software and especially how the phone's performance holds up over time. The reverse is true for Pixels. I don't have any fan boy love for OP. As a user who has used a huge number of Android phones over the years, I find OP's Oxygen OS to be the best out there, atleast for the last couple of years. I honestly feel OP went down hill since 3T. 7 and 7 Pro are not staying true to their roots and r now priced to match other flagships. When I bought my 3T it wldn't have been out of place to say it was the best all round smartphone in the world at that point. That doesn't really hold true any more for the current series. I am gonna be upgrading from my 3T this year and as things stand, it will likely not be a One Plus.

indlvarn, 04 May 2019The warranty even of phone with ip68 doesn't include water ... moreI bought a Sony Z a few years ago and I tried to root it. I did something wrong and the phone was bricked beyond repair. I took it to the service center where I was asked if I submerged it underwater. Of course I told them no and that's how I found it in the morning and acted clueless ;)
They replaced it ON THE SPOT! For FREE!
Sony's service centers in Europe are beyond excellent!
If you do that to your beloved OnePlus you'll be stuck with a brick. It doesn't matter if it's water related or software related, nobody's gonna replace it for you.
Time to think about it and make a choice.
Either buy a Sony, Samsung and be satisfied and safe, or go for the cheaper op (and realize only after why it's cheaper).
Better safe than sorry if you ask me. I also wrote this a few posts down, anything beyond 500$ without waterproofing is simply not worth it. Financially speaking.
Also, I haven't seen anyone complain about this : since op lacks waterproofing, WHY doesn't it have a REPLACEABLE battery??

I buy under 200 euro phones just so if it gets damaged then i just buy new one and dont need to lose my nerves and time on the warranty process.

indlvarn, 04 May 2019The warranty even of phone with ip68 doesn't include water ... moreIt doesn't matter, if it's certified and sold as water resistant. If you drop your glass water and it's damaged or under a simple rain and they refuse it by warranty you can sue them and win.

If they sell it as a water resistant product, the law protects you. At least, in my country and I think in all of Europe. Another thing is that people do not know about it and do not claim their rights.

About OnePlus... well that it's not an excuse as they are now selling expensive phones with lack of several features that at that price other good phones like S10e, S10 and even good offers of P30 and P30 Pro give you.

It was the same when they removed the audio jack, or justified others things with lame excuses. Hopefully seems that people already have noticed it and is no more fooled by their verbiage, lies, etc. Now are expensive and clones of other BBK phones without even a identified own design. People want more features at those prices aside a smooth phone. The wow factor of the app opening 0.02 seconds faster is not more working too.

And, as now, they always have been liars with their adds and publicity, cheats, etc. I want a real flagship or if i want save money a real flagship killer. Bye bye OnePlus "I never Settle" too...

indlvarn, 04 May 2019The warranty even of phone with ip68 doesn't include water ... morebut between having and not having an ip rating. my money goes to the one that has it. at the very least between the two, i can have an assurance to a certain extent even if it may not be covered by warranty that in cases of accidental water drops/splashes,the internal workings of my expensive (this oneplus is getting expensive too) device may not be damaged. it may not be absolute assurance, but to an extent its there. now i cannot have that with those that doesnt include such feature.
