Sony Ericsson Q4 and full 2011 results are out, don't look good

As many reports have stated - it seems that SE lost out in the middle-low phones category...
From personal experience though...
I used to love SE...
BUT
They don't ever seemed to have recovered from the X1 (which somebody mentioned) - this was touted as 'all singing and dancing' - but delays and crashes meant it came out something like a year late... so it was already outdated...
AND
SE have never recovered from being a year late to the party re: specs...
It always seems to be either 'just' six months too late or a full year... as Sammy announce their 'flagship' GS2 - the Arc (nice though it was) was a year old specs-wise... meaning no competition..
HAVING SAID THAT
The Arc was truly the first 'original' and 'unique' looking design SE had made in years and on that basis it was pretty successful...

Looking at Xperia S and Ion... it could go either way - yes, they're last year's specs but also I personally think they've gone back to boring blocky designs....
I suspect MWC will see Sony's new flagship - they had better be able to match Sammy / HTC / Moto in the specs department otherwise it could be fatal for them...purely because this year their Sony's designs are pretty sub-standard...
I'm hoping so - I like the idea of their 'smart' accessories!
And I'm also hoping for an Xperia Play 2 (another lost opportunity there too - very very very sub-standard specs for what could have been an essential purchase...)

I think the problem is brand popularity.
I had to pick out a new phone last week and checked out Samsung and HTC.
Why? Because There is a lot of talk about those brands and the reason for that is because they make THE top of the line flagships Android phones.
Even though I was not interested in buying a dual core flagship I still looked at those brands thinking if they make THE top of the line phones, their other phones are probably good to.
I ended up buying a Sony Ericsson Arc S by the way but only because my last phone was a HTC and I didn't like it, to buggy and boring ui and the Samsung Galaxy S Plus doesn't get the newest Android.

Problems for Sony...
1. if anyone wants to buy Andriod, they are normally guys who only think that having a thousand cores with a million gigs of RAM is not enough....
2. People looking for User Experience ONLY and "style over substance" will eventually always buy a half-eaten Apple device..
3. Real nerds and geeks do not buy Android or iOS, they go for more nerdy OS-es, which is(was) Meego and Symbian....
4. The people who look for Tank like devices will buy a Moto or a Nokia...
So Sony did not bring in the table anything unique... Samsung brought this CPU/RAM madness, iOS bought this UX for people who dont give a sh*t about specs, Nokia has the reliability, Moto has the Style and difference...... There is nothing Sony has now as Unique.......... now Ericsson is gone and we expect the radio reception to be bad as well......

i am about to buy a new smartphone with good quality and i am going to wait for SONY XPERIA S. they'll be back in the game coz of the features of this upcoming android monster but sony should make sure that they'll have the model released with an ICS OS. gingerbread is so 2011 and they should stick now with making dual core phones and hi-resolutioned screens at least above 320ppi. releasing WP7 models will also be good with dual core capacity and expandable memory as windows is more expert in making fluid like movements and very snappy looking OS, of course with gorilla glass. secondary camera is also a must have since other brands do it. i really think SONY will try to gain back their name. GO SONY! you'll be my next baby again, from BlackBerry models to iPhone 4S and HTC androids, they'll never be as good as the XPERIA S! rock on!

Well I think they're still the best because even though their production was affected by disaster like tsunami & flash floods, ther're still in the fight, and this year SONY will be the best! :D

ahmed, 20 Jan 2012what you talk about android share 51% and windows ph... moreAndroid did well because apart from ios, there were no alternatives. Now witness manufacturers all announcing alternative oses, including Samsung with their bada tizen hybrid. Reason is they are fed up of android and it's many problems. It would not surprise me to see a WP7 Sony phone soon.

How many people actually utilize the full potential of the quad core? And seriously, from what I see, battery technology has not improved that much and quad core phones might suffer from battery life issues. Look at the iphone 4s, its dual core but the battery life sucks. I would rather go with more matured technology as the early bugs have been fixed and performance optimized. LG came up with the first dual core phone but its performance was hardly impressive. And honestly, Sony so far has been the only one who has put any effort into its designs unlike the other brands whose phones all look alike.

i must say i dont care about dual core. I have xperia mini and my friend have arc. we are pretty satisfied and we also dont wanna buy SGS2 since we can play HD games on our phones and also we can run any app of SGS2 without a glitch. I am also very pleased with Sony android customization which is minimalistic.
mean think you guys. why we should buy a brick looking SGS2 when we are getting a sexy arc at less price and also can run any app of sgs2?

that's the results cuz sony ericsson never made dual core CPUs..so cuz they were late .. no 1 bought their phones...it's their mistake :P

Sony should seriously consider a good hardware and software combinations.
Adding WP7 and WebOS product line would be nice...
atleast drop android for Tizen.

they should come up with better hardware like sammy, like 4gb internal memory and 1 gig ram and more powerful processor can increase their sale, but they also has to be aggressive term of their service and updates.

anyways m happy to see sony ion and sony xperia s ....looks like they are back in the game....and no1 expected them to top the charts with a 1.4ghz flagship phone!

I agree on some of the user comments here.
I used to be an SE user, but when I decided to make the move from feature phone to smartphone, my friend berated me for abandoning SE (and buying a GS2 instead). I told him as lovely as the Arc was, why would I buy it when I could get a dual-core, S.AMOLED+ phone for the same price instead?
I have to say though, SE is doing quite well with their software updates/support. If they up the hardware or lower their price, I think the combination can draw back a lot of customers (including myself!!)
The Xperia S and Ion sound great - but let's hope it stacks up against the competition.

Their products are really ill-timed, they missed a lot of boats throughout these years, too many lineups in a too short a time, and they focused on the wrong things. The Xperia line was actually a very good line, but when the very first of the series, the X1, came out, it could have everything going for it, but was bogged down by a soon-on-its-demise windows mobile OS, cracks issues and unresponsive hardware. Then the X2, when they should have moved to android, they stuck with winmo. Then the X10, nothing special among the other android phones, then x10 mini, when the market is going for bigger screen they went the other way, then X8, again dime a dozen among the now saturated smartphone market, and then i guess the rest is history.

I am a sony fan after using c905&xperia arc . Sonyericsson making best quality phone.when I heard their Q4 revenue reports im very sad.I hope they will be king in 2012.
