My question is not that HTC is making a quad core phone. My question really is why?

Yes I do believe that we should make use of new tech. But Android OEMs just seem to be in a race that in the end nobody is going win. So next year will it be 4 core phones.

Nobody in Android is really working on better battery life or making sure that Android is the smoothest lag free OS around. I have asked and asked in these forums and nobody can give me an answer has dual core on Android really been put to full use on these phones, taking pictures and multi tasking don't really count nor does opening an app 2seconds quicker.

Android just seems to becoming more and more a battle of the spec sheet and not really about true quality.

Yes fight me on this Android sales will slow down and growth will be down this year and that will continue into the next year

Mustafa, 19 Jan 2012HTC has trouble making phones with single-core processors t... moreI get a day out of my sensation, reasonably heavy use. Its not an unreasonable amount of time, unless that is you have a job that means you go for many days wandering about with no viable means of getting access to a power socket? in that case these types of handsets aren't for you.

They didn't get yet a good use from dual cores(poorly optimised Os, Sense UI on top of it ...) and now they are coming with quad cores?
This rush it's like with the cameras. They didn't brought yet a good 8MP camera and now they pump them to 16MP.

seb, 19 Jan 2012This is getting realy stupid now. There's no need a quad co... moreLast time i check even computer were fine with single core. But with quad core there are lots of performance improvement. I guess phones need performance improvement especially we are running 3d movies and high end games.

HTC has trouble making phones with single-core processors that have decent battery life (the Thunderbolt). Their dual core processor phones have abysmal battery life (HTC Sensation), and now they're making a quad core? Pointless. Improve the software and slightly improve the hardware. It's getting ridiculous now.

AnonD-38717, 19 Jan 2012Improvement In Battery Time Is The Most Important Factor Fo... moreI agree with you, I think the focus should be on battery life single core is just more than enough for a phone. Between the three phones that I have tested running different OS the dual core show no significant improvement to me. Battery life should be the key. If someone really want to make the difference, make a phone that I can watch a good movie for 12 straight hours without charging.
However, for a lagging OS a quad core might be a good idea.

i personally care little for quad-core. dual-core is more than sufficient imo (in a mobile phone at least). i would much rather they focus on battery life and the built quality of a phone than go on with quad-cores. i think a line should be drawn between a tablet and a mobile phone. i hate how phones keep getting bigger. if i had to, i would give Apple credit for keeping the iphone a reliable mobile phone. that's just me.

Anonymous, 19 Jan 2012Mostly for video games. What bloody games exactly would need a quadcore processor? I played GTA China Town Wars on my iTouch which supports a single 530 MHZ core without any lagg...in my honest opinion the only phones which will need quad cores in the future (By 2014-2015) are Playstation certified phones because they'll have a good variety of "heavy" games...but really, do you need a quad core phone to play NFS or Asphalt? Hell no.

but you should also note 2 key point:
1- improving batty cap. is much more difficult than improving CPU performance
2 when comparing phones many customers put more value on CPU performance (and never ask themselves if they need such performance at all)
