Cars are down but other type of vehicles are up. Maybe people just shifted their preferences.
For example, in my country diesel cars are down because new government policy to put on high taxes for them.

My point remains: used CDs market does not kill the music industry.

I heard new Tesla cars are selling quite well.

are you kidding, 13 May 2019a new album supports the artist ... not the old, you dont ... moreYou have things a little backwards thinking that subscriptions are greedy on the end to the artist. They make fractions of cents for each time their song is played. The service provider makes a fair amount of money though. The other problem now is when people digitize their music collection how many do you think are deleting their digital copies when they sell their physical copy. In this case it is no different from piracy. Maybe not in the eyes of the law, but ethically. In piracy the media is purchased at some point, and then it is copied and passed along. In the case of digital or physical back ups of music or anything else you are moving along the original, but if you kept a copy you are still violating the terms of use of the product and perpetuating a system that reduces flow of funds to the thousands of people it takes to produce and distribute any given product in today's world.

American automotive companies have stopped producing cars in their domestic markets due to reduced sales. Our world works on consumerism, and if the majority of consumers move to not purchasing new products or services these companies will eventually fail. Basic economics.

But yes buying a used cd is legit and it should be yours for personal use. You support an artist for his new and continued work. if that was the case i should still get payed for a job i did twenty years ago. This rental fee is sometimes a bit nuts and a bit greedy . from the perspective of the artist more so than the service provider. Its all about the money folks nothing more. the guy is not performing live for me he made a disk . Do i have to pay hime everytime i use it nooo.... but if he came to my house that incures him cost yes then i should ....theres no real logic in this world anymore.. People think that i made it i have to get paid a thousand time from the same person. Each person pays and each person should be given the right to purchase once as in the good old days and even used discs or digital tracks....

I've trialed Spotify, Apple Music and a few others but always end up sticking with Google Play Music. which in general use, UI & recommendations I feel is better. But I'm dreading when it's finally migrated to YouTube Music which is so messy at the moment.

I'm just against paying $10/month for renting tracks. That massive library you talked of is useless to me as I only listen to my favourite artists. I have a 10-disc CD changer in my car which I have my favourite albums, that's more than enough for my daily commute.

If you rather buy the physical copies to support the artist then 100% that's better but arguing that they should be earning less than the already tiny amounts they make off streaming services is outrageous.

Keep buying cheap used cds. Those artists are already extremely rich, they don't need your money.
