The Xperia 1 has a 10-bit EQUIVALENT display (8-bit with 2-bit smoothing) that Sony says can display a myriad of colors without banding. 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing, commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering).

    Here is what i was looking for yesterday:
    - no Samsung Pay
    - No S-Pen
    - IP65/IP68 dust/water resistance (Samsung - IP68)

    - f/1.6 camera (Samsung has f/1.5)
    - 2160p@24/30fps (Samsung 2160p@60fps)
    - front camera f/2.0 (Samsung f/1.7), 1080p (Samsung 1440p)

    - No 3.5mm jack
    - 24-bit/192kHz audio (Samsung 32-bit/384kHz)
    - no IRIS scanner
    - no heart rate/SpO2 sensor
    - no DeX station support (transforms Samsung smartphone into a PC)
    - 3330 mAh battery vs 4000 mAh
    - price tag is higher

      Damn so its not a TRUE 10 Bit......All them sony boys Compulsive Liars Keep Lying to yourself SONY FAN BOYS lol .......
      The good news here is in reality, 8+2 FRC panels are almost impossible to distinguish from true 10-bit native panels. The only small difference is when it comes to viewing material that was shot in low light conditions at higher ISO values. On an 8+2 FRC display, the image will appear to show more noise than what an actual native 10-bit display will.

            Even with that headphones phone is too expensive for 700 euros with headphones it should be fair price without them for 500 or 600 at most.
            Sony is no longer leader of the market and with their awfully low market share 1000 euros is like when all stores put a sticker on the phone saying PLEASE DONT BUY ME I AM TOO EXPENSIVE FOR YOU.

                          [deleted post]Man oh man, i feel that Sony did hurt u one way or another. But let me give u another prospective on Sony vs Samsung.
                          I am a fan of Sony and a former fan of Samsung, have been using Sony for the past couple of years and till recently the super amazing XZ1. I had to switch to Note 9 and give my phone to another family member bcz they can't return the Note 9 and they will lose money reselling it.
                          Anyway, to make this short:
                          Note 9 512 GB 8GB Ram
                          XZ1 64 GB 4GB Ram and a year older than the Note 9
                          Sony booted faster, ran smoother (running same launcher on both phones (Nova)), hate the setting menu on Samsung ( hiding everything under the corner three dots), I can't find a setting about the edge screen again (stumbled upon it once before).
                          Only + over Sony is:
                          -Screen ( newer Sony phone have gorgeous screens).

                          Storage wise, I always have 128 SD card inserted.
                          Sony camera is not bad ( I prefer the natural color they produce) but the camera UI definitely need improvements.

                          Samsung still on March security updates while Sony has April security patch ( last time i checked was in April).
                          The Samsung Gallery app, Music app, and video player sucks compared to Sony's.
                          And somehow music sounds better on Sony phone (wired or wireless).

                          I honestly don't understand the hate on Sony phones, their phones are super good but lack the main stream luster.

                          That's said, competition is good and less players means Monopoly and less innov8.
                          And also no phone deserve to cost 1000$.

Second of all i never said sony phone was not a nice phone i only said for $1000.00 samsung offers better and MORE goodies...Example more ram more storage bigger bat in-screen fingerprint sensor heartbeat sensor HEADPHONE JACK wireless charge phone to phone.....and the price tag is the same thats my point.....

Both iPhone X and Note 9 have high end mobile OLED displays but they both suffer from PWM at low brightness while XZ3 doesn't but XZ3 is not as bright nor color accurate as the other two. OLED still has to grow especially since most of the apps still rely to black on white and proper LCD such as XZ2 still displays whitest whites better than top of the line OLED.

Sony beat you to the game. So many years in the Oled business and now they fall behind. Cant compare the 4K to 2K, its twice the res. Cant compare 8bit display to 10bit displays, that is all new tech, that Samsung doesn't use yet. Now you can blind yourself and criticize all you want. when you talk new tech the xperia 1 puts a lot more on the table. I read and use both brands, so i am educated and can judge one or the other. Just like i hate the fact that Sony did away with the headphone jack and Samsung will always win that battle at least in my opinion. Now the Xperia 1 is a totally different beast.
