They regularly upgrade whichever device they favor for the newest version, whether it be Samsung, Apple, Huawei, etc..
Most people, on the other hand, only replace their phone every 2, 3, 4 years. Unlike the common tech site commenter, to the average consumer switching devices is a hassle and they'd rather put it off as long as possible. Their previous phone, if in good working condition is in many cases sold on to someone else, or passed down to their kids/relatives.

I buy them for these reasons, but mostly because iOS is secure and private compared to android spyware systems.

I seriously don't understand why people use cases on their phones other than to maybe provide better grip - in which case you can actually buy a different phone made from something that's grippy in your hands.
I live in London and I see maybe 50-60% of medium class people using cases. And poorer people almost always use cases 99% of them. I don't get why, as a pristine screen and back would only be valued $15-$25 extra in case they want to sell their phones after 2 years of use.

But next year when they'll add a second hump at the opposite corner to equilibrate the new huge hump, they'll probably increase the price again and shell it as the awesome innovation.
And with the two humps, new cases to sell too. ^^ Make it thicker and more elegant with a bigger battery is ask for too much. The first premise is: the cheaper components for the price, so you maximize the profits.

Lets face it, the phone is going to have case on it therefore bump not an issue. No case well then bump is no issue for long, first time you drop it's wasted problem solved either way. :D
