blastertoad, 29 May 2019People are posting about windows phone or moto atrix, huawe... moreAtrix is not a screen mirroring. Its a running a customised linux OS as the webtop. The android portion is shown up in a small window.
Samsung design shows promise. The Linux for dex for example. Allows you to run vm. But they had to limit it to dex environment.
The problem is with android apps. No drag and drop functions. Navigation gets wonky for some apps, its very difficult to squeeze all apps which is optimized for touch for a keyboard and mouse combo.. Things you can do easily on a PC / Mac is quite hard on Dex.
I rather they add multi-screen display mode. Then wireless display mirroring..

People are posting about windows phone or moto atrix, huawei ect. The difference is this is not a ui tweak using screen mirroring. DEX is a secondary display output and allows use of the phone for input. Imagine wireless DEX and then let phone be used as keyboard like it is currently as mouse. Also those mentioning the need for a proprietary dock, Dex makes use of HDMI out and will use any adapter to do so. The bonus of Samsung's docks where they offered active cooling that allowed the device to perform at peak for longer. Now that they are doing larger heat dissipation systems that active cooling is not needed.

Even Continuum on Lumias and other W10M phones to me was more entertaining than of any use. It is to some though. I have a desktop for desktop experiences and a phone for phone-like experiences. Given time though people want versatility. So Samsung having this option finally is good. Why it took bigger companies years after the fact to get there is bizarre.

This isn't even their first wireless screen mirroring. I guess, this will be their first high frame rate and lag free solution. One step closer to a port-less smartphone.

Desktop experience on a phone?? hmmm sounds familiar, you mean like back in 2015 when Lumias could do this lol. This is old news. They had this and over USB C and widi/casting back in 2015. Why they keep trying to make things like this news, I will never know. That is why Microsoft and a couple other companies were believed to be true innovators in the phone industry up until Microsoft/Nokia died off. The 950 XL still cannot be beat in photo quality to some respects even now/today.

How ironic and stupid that 99.99% of people will not even be aware of what could actually be the best, most powerful and impressive smartphone feature on the planet.
I use DeX mode on my Note 9 and it is freaking brilliant for what it is.. love it so much..and doing it all wirelessly is nothing short of a technological fantasy.
Sigh. People are just stupid, sadly.

Anonymous, 29 May 2019lol...it's not wireless display, it's wireless Dex, Wireles... moreHuawei Desktop is a full desktop Android UI that was first implemented on the Mate 10. You only needed a type-c to hdmi cable whereas Samsung needed a dedicated Dock.
Samsung then released the Note 9 that also just needed the cable and no Dock but then Huawei released the Mate 20 that could run the desktop UI wirelessly.
