I thought Nypon was going to be an xperia ray successor. It definitely doesn't look as good if its just a smaller version of xperia s which imo looks worse than arc s.

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2012i agree they follow the trend of vaio laptops. Z - high ... moreVaio P and U were both very expensive engineering-showcase products. The actual cheapies are the E, C, and Y.

Also worth noting is that Sony is not in the android flagship race. Since the Arc (and maybe even the X10) their strategy have been "near-luxury" like Audi in the 1980s, or what Honda is doing with Acura today. This usually happens when a company don't have the resources to create a real flagship (e.g. Honda decided not to do a V8/V10/rear-drive, Sony decided not to do quad-core for the S).

Sony Xperia phones are amongst the lightly skinned android phones in the market, especially compared to the other OEM android makers in the market.

The cameras are more than decent enough, exhibiting natural colours and a wide dynamic range, but are held back by chromatic noise, lack of proper manual ISO controls, overcompression of images and poor image handling algorithm of the Snapdragon chipsets.

This is to be fixed in the upcoming Xperia phones, and with the Xperia U on the Novathor platform, the 8MP Exmor R FM sensors will be something to look forward to in the 8MP cellphone category, and will be at least somewhat ahead of the 8MP 2011 Xperias in IQ, as you get full on ISO controls under any lighting conditions as well, plus the image size compression is going to be nowhere as severe as the 2011 Xperias.

The Android software for Sony Ericsson's line of phones are relatively well optimsed as well, especially compared to the likes of Motorola, LG and even to many extents Samsung, as the 'lesser' arc S can keep up with it in RL browsing performance and shot to shot times with the camera. The arc S also scores better in browser benchmarks like Vellamo compared to the SII. The only thing that the arc S falls behind in is 3D graphics, yet we can probably tell that to date, even the Adreno 205 has to to be properly maximised and optimised in terms of usage. Most graphical benchmarks out there don't really count, as they're pretty badly optimised anyway, and the Xperia play with GTA II and Real Racing 2 are a good example of what the Adreno 205 can do.

Sony's software optimization goes as far as the GUI. Live wallpapers don't pose too much of a problem for the system UI and the frame rate drop is minimal. Compare that to the likes of the dual cores like the Optimus 2x and Droid RAZR, both of which I own, at stock ROMs using the same launcher and Live Wallpaper, and you'll learn that the frame rate drops are much more severe, especially on the RAZR.

Small image sensor? What are you comparing it to? The king of camera phones the N8? Sure, we can fit a large sensor in the phones, but would people be willing to live with the extra thickness? Would the thickness of the phone add to the selling point of the phone when the numbers game focus on thiness nowadays? I think not. Compromises have to be made.

For the record, the SGS2 and the iPhone 4S use the same sized, 1/3.2" 8MP sensors as the arc/arc S/Neo and Pro, and for those phones, Sony made the sensors, even for the Samsung phones TYVM.

Don't like the colour saturation or the image colour gamut? Go edit it then. The camera does not make the photographer, but the opposite holds true.

Robertbecause many people prefer phones with smaller size and weight, and because many people do not want to pay more than a given amount of money for a phone. I would never buy the Xperia S, though I find it the most beautiful phone out in this moment, as it is too big, so I'll wait for this Xperia P.

Why people is choosing sony? for camera purposes? it uses lousy camera that has really small image sensor but uses some other little feature to boost it up which ended up to be lack of natural. Is vibrant colour that make u think sony phone produce quality pic? oh gosh.
