They think they can fool people with 5G to get them to spend ludicrous amounts of money for a dang phone that let's you reach what 4G LTE was supposed to let you reach (1Gbps speed, almost acheived in some countries on LTE). As smartphones sales slow down, they need something to sell those phones. And a misunderstood, overhyped technology that isn't even ready to market is perfect! Raise profit margins significantly across every phone and it looks like that's the real cost of 5G so you think it's worth it.
You are wise to wait. Anway coverage is also a major problem. You can expect usable coverage beyond multi-million people cities only in a few years so come back later, enjoy life and by then surely you'll find a 200$ 5G phone.

The tech still not matured. I would wait cheaper and more complete version of 5G next next year. The pricing segmentation between 4G and 5G phone is just ridiculous for now.

Yes, more fake 5G. Standard won't get completed until the end of the year so that's not even 5G.
Everyone should ignore every single "5G" phone released this year.
