Saswat, 11 Jun 2019Now Firefox is going against it own motto of being open and free.Free in this case doesn't mean "doesn't cost money". Their primary reason for doing it is to reduce their monetary reliance on Google in case they don't renew default search contract.

the only reason i use it these days is that it still runs a little better than chrome, though opera seems to be the most memory friendly of them all (despite the great firewall of china owning it i.e. despite the spying risk)

Funnily enough I use Firefox Beta on my Android phone because it supports add-ons and certain features right off the bat like Reader View and Tab Queue unlike Chrome mobile. All Firefox for Android is missing is a proper dark mode.

Anonymous, 10 Jun 2019I like VivaldiVivaldi is not a real browser. It's a copy of Chromium. Chromium devs have done all the work and get paid by Google. Firefox devs need to get paid for developing such demanding software like a browser. On the other hand Vivaldi is nothing more than a Chromium skin, it's a hobby project, 1-2 developers are enough to make it in their spare time.

                                  From reclaimthenet-
"Well, if you're a Google Chrome user, you're out of luck – you will have to go back to experiencing that terrible web you knew before getting to know ad blockers. Alternatively, you'll be paying Google some money for the privilege.

The way Google is doing this is to change Chrome's Manifest V3 extensions system, and in the process break the blockers. And not only them, but also privacy extensions and anything else dependent on intercepting content before it shows up in the browser.

Specifically, Google is deprecating manifest V3's web API blocking capabilities. Developers and users have strongly criticized the decision.

But it's not the first time Google has faced a user backlash over a decision made on one of its products and services, and it won't be the last they will staunchly ignore any opposition to the move.

But paying, enterprise customers, will still be able to use ad blockers like uBlock and Ghostery, Google replied.

Everyone else will have to use lower quality ad blocking software, based on a limited, rules-based system, a-la Adblock Plus. However, Google promised to possibly of increasing the current limit of 30,000 rule – maybe, one day."

there aren't that many browser engines.
there's chrome's, safari's (which is pretty similar / shares a lot of code), edge (its dead, its going to be chrome's now!) and firefox.

so basically, its chrome's and firefox. by using only chrome you have the internet explorer problem around the corner. not to say that firefox is the best, but we're going to have a browser monopoly problem real soon, which is hidden by the fact that everyone skins their engine.
