Imagine two phones: one will have poor battery life in a couple of years (and it will be hard or impossible to replace the battery), another one already has poor battery life and you can't do anything about it (no, you won't find an extended battery for XCover 4s, they are only produced for really popular models like Galaxy S5). Both phones suck, but the second one sucks much harder.

Of course having a removable battery is good. Of course having a small battery is bad. Samsung could fit a much bigger battery in this phone but decided that the customers would buy it anyway. And they will as there is not much competition.
A proper DEFY successor would kill all these poor options. It's a pity Motorola doesn't make one.

You have the option of using higher rated batteries with non built in models.
The manufacturers have an option, soon, to deny you from buying a battery if you do not own the exact model you have or totally stop selling those batteries so you just buy a new model.

Now we have something like the G8 which may need a heat gun aimed at battery to take out that POS.

Actually I have hands slightly above average for my home country and greatly above average for the country where I live most of the time. As a European in Asia I am one of the tallest guys around with one of the smallest phones around. That's because if you have tiny hands even Sony's Compacts are too big for one-handed use, so you can get a bigger phone. People with tiny hands tend to use bigger phones as a result. That's why relatively compact phones are less popular in Asia than in Europe and the US.

Look at all the selfie risk takers on top of sky scrapers, bridges and more... the'yre basically carrying phablets and have so much ir so little gear on if not only just a selfie-stick... I guess you never seen anyone carry a Panasonic Toughbook in construction scenarios either so it all just falls back onto you that you're just simply not used to and do not want to get used to using a big phone in hazardous environments or situations which is fine but only in your case.
Another reason is that you might indeed have small hands so no wonder you prefer smaller phones as you had the Z1C...where "C" stands for compact...so yeah, big phones apparently aren't for you so just move on away from them and stick to your compact preference.

It's one thing when you are using a phone in the office, at home or in another relaxed environment. A 5.7" is manageable there.
It's totally different thing if you have a habit of going outside. Have you ever tried using Gmaps with one hand while being a passenger on a motorbike on a bumpy countryside road? Or taking photos while you are climbing an unfinished power plant steel structure? Of course you haven't, that's why you don't understand the connection between being a shut-in and believing big phones are okay for outdoors.
