Also "packed specs into the sensation which were lower than the s2 on every count"? I don't think so. Read shoryukens post. The original sensation had 1.2 dual core SAME AS THE S2, the xe had 1.5 GHz. Both have Qhd display - more pixels than the s2.

And " android fanboys" don't make me laugh. It's apple fanboys that have made the iPhone the success it is today. Every iPhone owner I have ever spoken to knows nothing of the tech specs they hold in their hand.

    That's just plain wrong.
HTC made it's first smart phone in 2002. The first iPhone was in 2007.

HTC started off as an impressive Android torch-bearer, with sleek metallic designs, innovative features, the unique Sense UI and great tech-specs. The brand was also catalyzed by those simple yet attractive commercials. It looked like a dream debut.

HTC has always modeled itself after Apple with their innovations; but there is a strong difference between the typical Apple consumer and typical Android consumer. Apple is a compelling proposition more so as a "elevated status symbol" than any other functional reason. The fact that its is also dumbproof also works well for the standard jane and joe who are not well versed or interested in the technical underpinnings of their dream mobile.

Now move over to the typical Android fanboy who is the driving force behind the sales of the flagship Android devices. And flagship devices are the biggest profit generator whereas the VFM devices make the revenue volumes(bread n butter). Android fanboy's have proven that they know their stuff in and out which is proven by the stupendous success of Galaxy S2 in comparison with silent demise of the Sensation variants.

HTC packed specs in Sensation which were lower than the Galaxy S2 on every count and priced it same or higher as the S2. The thinking was that their Sense UI experience and metallic unibody is good enough to cover up the basic tech shortcomings. Their strategy has been a miserable failure as can be seen from their Q4 "Holiday Season" performance.

We love HTC and wish them the best. We hope they learn from their past mistakes and provide good competition for Samsung in the future.

I have owned a couple of older HTC devices (Dopod D810 and Touch Diamond 2) and I was a big fan. Now the logo 'quietly brilliant' makes me laugh. It is more like HTC have lost the ability to put a lot of functionality into a small device.
They also insist on covering up the highly flexible later Andriod version UIs, limiting the ability to personalise your phone (I would have purchased an iPhone if I wanted to be a clone).
I now find HTC 'quietly disappointing'.

It feels like HTC\'s quality deteriorated after the original Desire! They did not address issues like the death grip, poor screen visibility under sunlight, so so camera for still and vids, low RAM and ROM, poor battery etc... Even their tie up with Beats did not help them... I love their Sense UI which is unmatched even by the Iphone and Samsung.

I very much agree with what people are saying about the design issue (yes, they all look the same these days). But you know, HTC has been trying to be like Apple....a doomed effort on their behalf.

The other thing contributing to the decline in sales, is the snooping they have been doing on their customers. VERY BAD !! They have been tracking everything you do on your phone. What you type, what apps you use and how frequently, websites, pictures, contacts, calendar and who you call. This is what hurt them, as they are the number spying device. You gave up your rights when you plugged in your SIM card (buried in the legal agreement on your phone at Settings> About phone> legal>HTC. I know you have been told to read the small print).

If you buy an HTC device, root it and install a customer ROM that has the spying removed as much as possible (the spying code is written into the SENSE UI and phone's software framework).

However, I feel that HTC has the best UI that ties many daily used functions together. They need to stop spying. If they get caught again, it will be much harder for them to come back from.

Cod3rror, 06 Feb 2012Some old tired designs. Unimpressive specs with gimmicks..... moreI don't understand what people have against beats. I'm not a massive a music lover as I don't really use this feature on my phone. But to the person who said "if u want music get an iPhone. " why? The sound quality through beats is better than anything else so far on a mobile. Granted its really just a software enhancement and not hardware specific. It still sounds better than any other handset without beats.
And to the person who said "unimpressive specs" again can you elaborate please? I would say at the moment, there is no top phone which completely beats other phones. The iPhone 4s has 1ghz dual core, 512 ram. I would say from my experience the iPhone was good for camera shots and its retina display. Until now there are phones coming out with 720p resolution. Eg Samsung galaxy nexus.
The top HTC handset spec wise. (I'm excluding the HTC rezound, although technically its the best at the moment - as its a USA only non gsm handset) is the sensation xe. 1.5 GHz dual core. 768 ram. QHD - slightly under the retina display, but you you'd be hard pressed to tell.
The samsung galaxy s II has 1.2 GHz with 1gb of ram. this phone tops a lot of benchmarks.
So I would its really down to preference.
I would say that maybe the problem HTC have is that they churn out too many models eg sensation, 5 months later, the sensation xe comes out. Including all the others out there. Wildfire, wildfire s, desire s, desire hd etc etc. Unless you keep up to date with the models and know the tech differences. The general public won't realise there may be tech enhancements and think they all look the same. And I do agree in part that some handsets look similar. But again you could say the same for some of the other manufacturers. Samsung ace, Samsung w, Samsung s II. Same plasticky square design.
Could u tell the difference - without seeing the back - the difference between a iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s ?

I used to love htc but lately, as you all said, they're designs all look the same. Not only that but they used to make the best touch screen/qwerty phones but now they stopped. if they were to ever make another one, i would consider it but until then, i just dont want a bar touch phone.

I would love to have a htc but I can't tell the difference between a desire, a wildifre or a sensation. Apart from the screen size they are all the same. If they brought the sensation XE/XL with different design to it. A bit more originality like the xperia ray. I like the design but its not up to date enough e.g. dual core, 4" screen and bigger battery. When Sony release a phone like that and with its design I will get that. But i desperately want a htc for the sense UI and beats audio it looks proper good.

HTC's problem is the design and looks of the phones. They all look the same and if you see HTC phone from 2008, it looks exaltly identical to the latest production.

So HTC, fire the hole design team and try to hire someone from Nokia.
