Samsung preparing to lay off 1,000 employees in India [Updated]: Samsung's official response

02 July 2019
The measure is part off a cost-cutting strategy that Samsung hopes will help turn around profits in the long run.

It definitely doesn't say they wont cut jobs, it only says they plan on making investments and creating other jobs. With 5G coming up, one can expect they will cut jobs in other areas an open jobs in 5G development. the ideal would be to move that personel from one area to another but there definitely will be people losing some jobs.

Samsung might be overpriced, but they offer a great balance between quality, support and even price. I was surprised when the S10+ came out for $900 when Huawei and Apple were selling phones with less specs for even $1000. People use the argument that one cannot expect well established renowned brands to sell as cheap as surging brands, which is something I find ridiculous about Apple, but I definitely would let it pass to Samsung when they prices are still moderately expensive.

Anonymous, 03 Jul 2019Hey, A50 has sAMOLED, and a better UI, you should count all... moreRelying on online stores isn't bad and ads can be disabled, trivial problems mostly. How about Samsung's pricing? The customers pay for Samsung's Heavy marketing, that's the reason why they sell midrange phone on a price-point with weaker SoC compared to competition. While ads can be disabled on Xiaomi, Samsung's tax due to their heavy marketing isn't, it's engraved on the initial pricing and users has to bear with that. I wouldn't buy an A70 and A50 if I can buy similar or even better cameras and SoC for similar and even cheaper size. Haven't you opened a phone before? Samsung's A series mid-plate were very thin which makes them very light (less metal, less material, less build costs) but sacrificing thermals on the process.

Xiaomi usually sells cheaper because they rely on online store and UI ads, they aren't charity.

Samsung still sticks to their heavy marketing style which bloats the pricing of their product significantly. I would say that people today were more informed and trusts their own research regarding the product that they wanted to buy on a certain price segment. Choosing the best should be done through research and NOT by making the phone the best because you already owned it or because a famous artist says so.

Anonymous, 02 Jul 2019I have samsung A50 not overpriced junk, use it then speak.I would not say the the A50 is overpriced but I would just say that if users have wide perspectives regarding other smartphone brands, the A50 wouldn't be that relevant if users can buy cheaper Poco F1 6/128GB or even the much less expensive Redmi Note 7 Pro 128GB version . Users can also opt for a cheaper Mi9SE or the similarly priced Redmi K20 (Mi9T).

So, the news was the opposite... They are moving 1000 jobs along generating other 1000 to the 5G deployment area?

And is hard to see layoffs if their smartphone area got resurrected!

The comment from samsunf actually doesnt say it has bot deducted the number of staff in some departments. It only says it invested in some and increased staff in needed areas. It is shady comment as in politics...

Not surprising, samsung never cared for the mid range and budget segments like xiaomi and other chinese brands, now look. They were confident with their galaxy lines, and now 2019, they just put out budget and mid range phones under the A and M series. Too late, xiaomi and other chinese brands already have a foothold in india. Now samsung is playing catch up.
