Half of the Americans can't identify their phone model, a third believe it's 5G-capable

02 July 2019
Just 44% of iPhone XR users know what their phone model is while over 70% of Galaxy S9+ users guessed correctly.

What else do you expect, probably they cant even identify who is their provider, there is no surprises here. But I bet they could identity all Kardashian's

        Adios!

As someone that has worked providing tech support to an USA phone company I must say about half the people calling indeed doesn't know what model of phone they got, some even from the very moment they are buying the phone. But I put a lot of blame on the OEMs. Most if not all fail to include the commercial name of the device and only include the model name in the settings of the phone, so when you asks them to tell you the phone model they will only find HB3F1HYTJ3 instead of an actual name they can remember. Not to mention it should also be in an area of easy access but many times it is not.

well what did you expect from them, they didn't pick their President right let alone a mere phone.

Hmm..., 04 Jul 2019Yes, that is why I find this survey absurd! Can you explain what hassles or problems normally comes with smartphones that isn't Apple?
Your statement means you are as dumb that can't find wifi toggle to switch it over and have wifi working or even not been able to pull down notification bar and toggle wifi on from there and have device connected to his/her wifi router/ network!
this is really not acceptable cause at least those who claim a smart phone probably had other smart phones unless they really came from a future phone like 3310 cause even a lot of future phones had similar or close to smart phones UI!

As for people not knowing what they have or use, not a lot of people will know what they got, unless you are using iPhone for trends (because of IG or something). Most people don't know what they got beause they are not written on phone, and just simply don't care (beacuse knowing your model of the phone is just not important).

If you are into it, then yeah you will know. Then again, while I know phone models by looking at them, I wouldn't know the difference between different models of BMW M, or Audi A series...but some people wil just by looking at the car...so there is that. It isn't really that surprising.

And just like Android, without Apple Id (Google account equivalent on Android), you cannot download any apps.

Difference is Andoirds have options to sideload apps, whereas iOS cannot do that. But what's the point of having smartphone without access to apps? just browsing then...really that can be done on a cheap low cost phones

bottomline for this really is there are alot of people who don't know what the model of their smartphones are. i have worked as a tier 2 tech support for a mobile service provider in the u.s. and i have had countless encounters with people who were smart, and even tech savvy sometimes, but don't know what their smartphone model is. well, that was only one mobile service provider but most of the subscribers then either have an iphone or a galaxy s or note phone. most of the customers simply would say that they have "the latest model" or "the one from last year" but don't really know what it is. i am not really sure why it is that way, but most of them are surely not dumb. an example is this conversation i had with a network engineer who was really knowledgeable about everything on network processes and equipments, but was referring to his smartphone as "iphone y because he thinks it was the one who came after the x".

For note Apple customer service is serving the world market so behavior & attitude are different from region to region. So Apple target audience are those with finance, and wanting a product to run right out of the box with none of the hassles or problems that normally comes with smartphones that isn't Apple. If you did not understand what I meant. Here is a simplified version Apple customer base are largely tech illiterate with maybe 20% of their customer base being tech savvy.
