Optimizer, 08 Jul 2019You guys has no idea how innovative Japanese are. lol!The Japanese keep the best things they make for themselves. People don't have even the slightest of ideas how high end the Japanese can go. Look up JVC's "Wood" series, for example.
When it comes to technology, maaaybe only the Germans are on par with the Japanese. The Americans are far behind, and the Chinese only got famous because they made cheap smartphones for emerging markets. Simple as that. Japanese technology was, is, and most probably will be, no.1 in the world.

As I thought. Sony Mobile under Kenichiro Yoshida as Sony CEO and Kimio Maki's Sony Mobile President leadership did change a lot of things into much more meaningful and lively. Sure, there are still some black spots that haven't been addressed for now, but because it's the first year where Sony Mobile could work with another Sony divisions with better scale and freely, including long-anticipated Sony Alpha division collaboration, we could see a miraculous thing from Sony Mobile division under the new protocol and leadership soon.

Looks interesting.
But lets wonder.
Galaxy fold price 1980.
Mate X will cost 2600.
Motorola Razr 1480 bucks
Xiaomi dual foldable phone have to cost 999 euros.
Apple folding device is expected to cost around 3000.
So this Sony superfolding device price??? XXXX.
I doubt if anyone could afford and i dubt if it will have any usability i mean having this just as a gimmick to rock among the friends would be nonsense buying from idea (i did not know how or where to spend my money).
So again big no at the moment but after several years when the price drops it would be funny having one of theses.

No matter which hardware Sony uses the camera quality end result will be rubbish compared to rivals like Apple Samsung Pixel Huawei. They just don't seem to learn that in a digital camera age its not solely about hardware but also software as well, hence their smartphones have NEVER competed in the camera department and is continuously a loss making business and only still exists for marketing purposes which Sony admitted themselves.

Agree about the sensor size, thats why i wonder how does it works if its indeed a 10x optical zoom in a compact phone.
10x hybrid zoom on P30 Pro is actually great quality though, easily wipes away the rest of the competition. Its good to have it and got its own pros.

Let's suppose it has a 260mm camera. Even 90 degrees as periscope it will require to be smaller than the sensors many use behind 52mm lenses. Size limitations.
Same reason you see phones with 3x or 5x using 8MP 1/4".
1/4" sensor be be about 8,5 mm2. Awful even for front camera.
What's the point of using phone to take photo of something 300m away? Quality will be way below awful.
