So yes, I did read your comment and reply to your points.

I haven't seen Pixel doing oil painting at such low ISO level, but the regular HDR+ mode surely does it at very high ISO. Night Sight on the other hand always gives you noisy but very detailed images with great dynamic range across most lighting conditions. And it's not like Xperia 1 is good at freezing motion in low light, it shows some artifacts around cars or people..

So called long exposure night mood which google pixel 3 called miracle... i do not think it is worthy...because it create motion blur..due to slow sutter speed...also gives oil painting noise and effects at ISO 400 or Higher...where sony xperia 1's main camera does not have such problem even at ISO 800

AnonD-706668, 20 Jul 2019but in low light the main camera of xperia 1 takes clear ph... moreFirst of all, in order to call one a good camera, it at least has to nail the BASIC, which is daylight photography. The color reproduction of my P30's camera was quite lacklustre when I first got it, but the subsequent updates improved the color & WB accuracy drastically. It was nailing the low light from the get go and that's Huawei has been focusing on for a while, but they still decided to fix its daylight performance because if it fails to deliver good results when the light is sufficient enough and the camera has to do the least amount of work, then that's not a good camera, and they know it.
Xperia 1's detail rendition in daytime is slightly better than Exynos S10 - and that's not a good news because Snapdragon S10, iPhone XS, P30 Pro and Pixel 3 all do SIGNIFICANTLY better than Exynos S10 in this regard.
Another thing to keep in mind is the dynamic range. When triggered, Sony's HDR algorithm does a sufficient job to bring down highlights and boost up the shadows to make the image more natural-looking, but the thing is it barely get triggered under complex indoor lightings and low light conditions. I've seen numerous photos online where it straight up failed to activate it and resulted in overly contrasty images. With this reason alone I'm calling Xperia 1 a great low light shooter, but not an excellent one. Don't forget about the lack of dedicated Night mode as well, which is becoming the norm among high end smartphones.

Nick Tagataka, 20 Jul 2019I did, and I think it's impressive that in low light Xperia... morebut in low light the main camera of xperia 1 takes clear photo even at ISO 800 with out painting like effect which other smart phone do(also doodle pixel 3). In day light any phone can takes good images. Now a days no one calculate day light image quality. Which phone takes clear low light pic those phone are called a camera phone. Xperia 1 is clear low light winner here if takes a low light photo with Xperia 1 main camera.

I love the pixel phones but my pixel 2 broke :/ i have now my old Xiaomi Mi A2 with a broken camera :/ my kids played with it^^ hope i can afford the new pixel device or an oppo

AnonD-706668, 20 Jul 2019i think you did not check the full resolution low light pho... moreI did, and I think it's impressive that in low light Xperia 1 managed to hold onto details in dark shadow areas without painting them black or completely destroying them like many other devices tend to do, and it's probably due to RAW noise reduction which is more efficient compared to the regular noise reduction. When there's sufficient amount of light, though, Pixel 3 captures more detailed image especially when using Night Sight. Sony's heavy sharpening makes much more sense in low light but it's completely unnecessary during the day, and destroys fine details in a really unpleasant way.

Mix 3, Mi 8, Mix 2s, which should all score 103 with the latest firmware, cost even less while having the same last gen flagship SoC as a Pixel 3 XL.
The 3a doesn't bring much to the table value wise.

People rate Pixel's camera highly because it keeps details rather natural compared to others and Night Sight makes it one of the best low light shooter among all smartphones, though that's not to say it's free from problems.
