Unfortunately never getting a true successor at this point it seems.
And the worst part is that there is no reason accept for the foolishness of consumers and the greed is corporates.
This world sucks. Instead we have to pay more for and more and more ridiculous high prices for interior tech and increasing compromises.

They're just playing with peop... moreWell my old Nokia 808 (micro-USB dead), was outputting 38 MP images that were, in good light, still unmatched by today smartphones. And it was useful to have a lot of pixels, especially to crop to a 3:2 photo format or for lossless quality zoom on the image.
At night I was using super sampling for 8 MP noise-free images and they are still incredible in detail and for such an old device. But it was tricky to get a good exposure. When i did catch it though, the results were excellent. So it was useful, for that phone with that tech at that time...
But yes, today, with all those software advancements, it's probably less of a must have. There are still a few people I guess, like me, who would want a proper replacement for the Nokia 808 but still nothing on the horizon yet, unfortunately...

This sensor has a few improvements over others, first and foremost it's surface area, it's almost the biggest sensor in a smart phone except for the older nokias 808 and 1020. It does have a huge pixel count but it's the same quad bayer implementation with optional 64MP pics althogh it's just a technical way of making higher quality 16MP images. I do wonder how will they be able to make OIS for this big a sensor. Without OIS it wouldn't be much of an upgrade.

Do not forget what ultra clarity on honor can do. Besides colors, resolution can also make captured moments more real. I wish though there is such advancement in color reproduction, not just AI for the better taste. At least something like huawei did recently with bayer.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro is great. I would love for them to make something with decent specs that isn't a phablet.

Grats so next year 100 Mpix sensor will output 50MB images so the 2000 TB will be needed for a 2 week hollyday trip.

It time for new image compression formats!
AV1 and AVIF have both been finalized. We just need the processing HW implementations.
