Anonymous, 24 Jul 2019Now do the same thing for Apple, listing the features and p... moreI could, but you would have nothing to compare the iPhone to. There aren't really any Super-Polished Mobile Hardware-OS devices out there. I mean Nemo Mobile gets close, but that's moreso an enthusiasts/hobby project more than a serious attempt. Lucky enough, there are competitor Android devices between themselves, which helps to gauge the features, performance, efficiency, and price among its peers.

As cliche as it sounds, an Android Phone with 8GB RAM running SkinnedOS (eg Honor View20) is probably equal to a Google Phone with a mere 4GB RAM running Optimised/StockOS (eg Pixel 3XL), and that is roughly equal to an iPhone with a paltry 3GB RAM running iOS (eg iPhone 7 Plus). It's not the best analogy but it helps to show just how impactful the software side of things really are, and that fact should never be disregarded.

And as stated above, it's not all about the numbers. Objective specs and numbers do help, especially on Android where cross-comparisons are easier to make. It's sort of like comparing all different Windows Ultrabooks, and then trying to compare that to a MacBook Pro, the specs alone do not tell the full-story.

With that said, you can definitely see that OnePlus devices have been innovating less and less each year, simultaneously increasing the prices year on year. What $400 got you as a near flagship phone in the 2016 OnePlus 3, today it doesn't. For the best value today, that same $400 can get you a Lenovo Z6 Pro and a 256GB microSD card. Or if you like, you can compare the 2018 Pocophone F1 which costs around 210% less than the OnePlus 6t, so yeah "flagship killer" or "value king" are only memories.

There's a meme going around for OnePlus: You either die as a Flagship Killer, or live long enough to see yourself become a Flagship.

Be real. They have one and the same internals as the XS in terms of CPU, GPU, and memory chip.

Also, a YouTuber found that the XR screen absolutely CRUSHES the "superior" 1080P screen of the Pocophone in key metrics such as color accuracy and brightness.

Shiny, fancy numbers aren't everything. Just saying?

                1) $349, 2014/04, OnePlus 1, QSD 801, 3GB/64GB, LCD, Plastic
                2) $399, 2016/06, OnePlus 3, QSD 820, 6GB/64GB, OLED, Aluminium
                3) $479, 2016/11, OnePlus 3t, QSD 821, 6GB/128GB, OLED, Aluminium
                4) $539, 2017/05, OnePlus 5, QSD 835, 8GB/128GB, OLED, Anodised Aluminium
                6) $559, 2017/12, OnePlus 5t, QSD 835, 8GB/128GB, OLED, Anodised Aluminium
                7) $629, 2018/05, OnePlus 6, QSD 845, 8GB/256GB, OLED, Glass
                8) $639, 2018/11, OnePlus 6t, QSD 845, 8GB/256GB, OLED, Glass, No Headphone Jack
                9) $749, 2019/05, OnePlus 7pro, QSD 855, 12GB/256GB, OLED 90Hz, Glass, No Jack, Motorized camera (durability/longevity?)

                …see a trend?
OnePlus has been slowing the improvements over the years while simultaneously increasing the prices. It has merely been riding the spec-bump wave of the market. So each iteration was worse than the one it replaced, from a competitive perspective and a value perspective. And things get worse outside the USA, with no control on prices in the grey market.

                *5) $389, 2015/08, OnePlus 2, QSD 810, 4GB/64GB, LCD, Plastic
The only outlier is the OnePlus 2 which should be in position #2 but its demoted downwards since it too was plagued with the infamous QSD 810 chipset and the Cyanogen Inc debacle. This is the one that shall not be named model according to OPO.
