You can't add more RAM, or a microSD card (which honestly aren't big deals). Also, the only reason the Tencent version is cheap, is for a promotion and because it is a pre-order. The regular prices should go up after the pre-orders.
Even more disturbing, you also cannot unlock the bootloader, apply a custom recovery, root it, and use Custom Roms/Mods on this device. And I suspect that occurs for all the models ($500-$999). The only way around this is if everyone (thousands) makes a fuss about it collectively, and the negative press around it causes ASUS to fix the issue.

Phone looks good but still Nubia red magic cost less and is as good.
Same goes for blackshark 2.

Well, it got cheap just because they removed the clean stock android for Tencent's bloated UI.
I'm still gonna buy the $900 12GB/256GB.
