It would be greater if the affected users will be compensated since they were blind about this issue. And it's a confidential information so it would be super fair for such action.

Facebook fine with $5 billion for privacy violations what a fking joke. Yet the people who's details have been effected you dont see them getting any compensation. I think it would be fair if people who are effected should all be compensated then these BS company's making off with billions.

A pathetic slap on the wrist - google "Facebook stock price" and see how it started rapidly growing after the fine was announced. Everyone expected some major repercussion but instead they got an equivalent of a parking ticket.
And it's not just about setting a dangerous precedence that big companies can get away with invading people's privacy easily, it's also yet another battle lost in the fight for privacy generally - it's slowly becoming apparent that privacy is simply disappearing and there's an absolute f*ckall we can do about it.

But.. But.. The user is robbed of his data and the state takes the money?!? The fine should be split for the amercan users. And all other countries should to the same for their people

Maybe give some of that money to the users, since it's our data that made them rich?

"FTC shutsdown Facebook due to privacy concerns"

Facebook built "at least" 70% of their money, revenue, and business off the data from their users, which is likely to be all acquired through immoral and fraudulent practices.
This fine is 1% of their total business (probably less).
What this means is the government has little care about its people, rather than say, trying to look like they are caring and important. I guess the glass half-full viewpoint is that, this is still better than what you get with the Russian government, or even more disturbingly the Chinese government.
People should have privacy, and they should have the freedom to share their privacy on their own terms. Otherwise, systems will naturally form in order to exploit the citizens. The governments role should be to enact rules/systems to protect freedoms, not to sell them.

They will never take care of privacy. It is user's mistake to think their data is safe at Facebook. Don't know how safe their 2 other major app WhatsApp & Instagram are..

Violate the rules then pay the fine! hmm interesting. Who knows Facebook is involved in this with Cambridge analytica. People who lost the privacy shouldn’t be receiving the money?

Who knows, maybe FB has 50 billion dollar bank reserves for fines just like this lol. They seem to be completely unaffected by all the fines they've been hit with over the last few months.
