Anonymous, 27 Jul 2019illegal....... like you are country What is that even supposed to mean? They've been found guilty and fined in 3 national/international courts. And the EU is trying them, again, *right now* for selling below cost to kill off another competitor.

AMD is already better than Intel when it comes to Processors. Meanwhile, Qualcomm makes Intel's smartphone modems looks like garbage when it comes to performance.

Carol, 26 Jul 2019I feal that apple just killed a part of competition...You need to read up on this. Qualcomm held back the market and hobbled or killed off their competitors for the last 20 years with their strong arm (and illegal) licensing tactics.

Qualcomm had refused to sell Apple 5G modems for the soon to be announced XI series, and it looked like intel's modem wouldn't be ready even for the XIS series in 2020. Apple settled, and without their business intel cancelled all 5G modem development.

intel's modem unit was heading for a dead end, selling their existing designs to the lower end of the market until that market dried up; Apple buying it keeps it alive.

Kevin T, 26 Jul 2019Intel should have kept the business I rather wanted to se... moreThe volume required to design and build modems profitably is such that without Apple intel couldn't turn a profit, thus they gave up working on a 5th generation design. Only the largest phone makers (Huawei, Samsung, and now {soonish} Apple) have the scale to do it. intel had to either sell it off to one of a very few potential buyers, or they would have competed with MediaTek on the low end of the market until they wrote it off as unviable.
