its hard to get at local stores. unless you importnit direct from china. if you were to import, custom will hold your item untill you pay tax, get an approval from local authority to get it certified (like sending a car to authority to get an emossion check).

Actually the OS interface is quite fine, similar to Vivo's or Oppo's, but lack of hardware optimizations is really apparent. And Meizu did almost nothing to fix it, giving the fact that I bought it almost a year after its release but I received 0 update. Switching to stock Android could be a chance to revive the brand and they can spend less for software R&D, or at least unlock the bootloader and release the official kernel source so users can use AOSP or Lineage.

I have used Meizu and I like them the only problem is lack of updates etc, maybe if they were to adopt pure Android instead of Flyme.
In terms of reliability I found them to be good I swap phones all the time and try different stuff It would be a damn shame if they did go.
Also Xiaomi are no better or worse than Meizu only annoying thing I found with Xiaomi is the damn adverts.

you might not need Meizu but you're tackles enough that you're not thinking of the people working for the brand and might be losing their jobs

I despise that. When it comes to electronics, I only buy Japanese brands first, then Korean/European secondary. Never Chinese. Quality over quantity.

Subpar companies that make subpar products have just a single destination: bankruptcy.
Also, I still don't understand how cheap chinese phone clones from brands you never knew existed, are being sold outside china and actual consumers actually buy them as a result of their own calculated decision. I mean, brands like huawoi, lenovo, honour, opoo, realme, oneplus, vivo, meisu, zte, micromax, acer, verykool (lol) make garbage hardware and pair it with garbage software. They don't offer top level of customer support, they don't offer updates and longevity to their products, they are not reputable apart from the fact that they are cheap. Yet, people still buy them.
For some reason or just because they are uninformed consumers/don't understand technology/can't see the big picture/etc. they choose to use such devices. It's like choosing low grade margerine instead of high quality butter or virgin olive oil.
There should be just two options: either get the best made, organic, environmentally friendly product, OR get nothing at all. As easy as that! No subpar stuff, no compromises, no bad stuff.

It's shameful that a company who has good quality hardware can't be arsed to bring the same level of sophistication to its software. Arbitrary limits to which version can be installed on which device, numerous bugs, performance problems, restrictions sullied my experience in an otherwise great phone package.
When you don't listen to your customers (evidenced by your "support" forum filled with muppets (moderators) and instead focus on churning phone after phone with the same problems as the previous versions you have failed as a company.
You could've been something bigger if you only have listened.

Marketing is the main issue. Their phones are far superior in quality to the likes of Xiaomi and Oppo. Even their software experience is smoother than competitors. I have a Meizu mx5 that still functions beautifully, with no lags or stutters.
They need to market themselves better in emerging amrkets like India and make available their entire range as opposed to half heartedly launching the odd phone.

Seems like t... moreIt is an anti-consumer design and pro-company/profits by nature (planned obsolescence). The only worthwhile trade-off seems to be in having proper IP67/68/69k waterproofing. However, OEMs always hesitate to add this feature trade-off/compensation, and they almost never honour their warranty when ingress damage occurs. That's why I am impressed by LG and Samsung, for almost making a waterproof phone WITH removable battery in the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S5.
I feel like, if you buy a small phone, like an iPhone SE or a Sony XZ1 compact, there is an inherit idea that you want maximum compactness. And in such cases, I can overlook the utility of a Removable Battery, especially since the smaller phones tend to wear-out the battery far slower.
However, for large phones like a Sony Xperia 1, Samsung Note10, or OnePlus 7 Pro... I think its understood that battery life and power is more important. So having a fully-charged spare battery (or multiple!) does essentially double your battery life instantly, unlike the trickle-charging of Wireless Chargers or Fast-Charging using a bulky PowerBank.
And this is doubly-important for any device used for playing games. It could be a Flagship like a Samsung S10+ or LG V50, or an actual device dedicated to playing games. So phones like the Xiaomi BlackShark 2, Nubia RedMagic 3, Razer Phone 2, and ASUS RoG Phone II should all have a Removable Battery. Remember when you used to play on your Nintendo GameBoy Advance or your Sony PSP ?? When you were out of the house, and you ran out of battery, you simply swapped in some fresh ones!!

Nobody bats an eye and everyone just parrot statements said by marketers and reviewers on form over function sillyness.

I agree about the software updates but most flagships don't have some of the features that you mentioned either. Especially the removable batteries. I can't think of at least 5 flagship phones from 2017~2019 with removable batteries.

To be honest, it was the fault of their upper management; always pinching pennies and following market trends blindly without thinking about the product or consumer's interest.
They saw what was happening to Xiaomi, and wanted to do the same, but they never did follow-through. Why?
- The phones had less 2G/3G/4G LTE bands
- The phones were over-priced for their local prices, they needed to cut-down slightly
- They didn't have the best monthly security update schedule
- They missed other opportunities*
*Ways to do this is like being a consumer-friendly niche, when everyone starts:
- locking bootloaders, you make yours developer friendly
- creating extra fragile phones, you focus to make yours durable
- making OIS and IP68 rare, you fund a couple models with these features
- making small batteries, you focus on making yours larger
- sealing batteries, you fund a couple models with Removable Batteries
- removing headphone jack and FM Radio, you make them a standard feature
- removing microSD slot and DualSIM, you make them a standard feature
- removing front-firing stereo loudspeaker, you fund a couple models that have it
- removing parts of display/notches, you make yours uncut and symmetrical
- removing IrDa blaster and qwerty keyboards, you include IrDa and have high-quality removable keypad attachments
--basically, you make a better product, then you market the craq out of it !!!

I hope they survive. I enjoyed my M2 Note at the time. It was a great phone with a display that many phones today may envy in the budget segment, while admittedly the camera was not great.
They had a great design and brought some original ideas like the multi-function pill button at the bottom that was a physical home button, a touch sensitive scroll button, and a fingerprint scanner all in one (before the world went edge-to-edge).
They were also cheap in my country before Xiaomi arrived and undercut them.
They kept breaking the rules and innovating and it's a shame it didn't pay off for them. Hopefully they will pull through.
