I am really confused. The Nubia z20 seems to have far superior specs to the Nubia x 5G. Snapdragon 855 plus vs. snapdragon 855, larger OLED display on the front vs. smaller LCD display on the front, and much better camera capabilities with the z20. Yet 5G is apparently not on Nubia z20 and instead on Nubia x 5G. Is the Nubia x 5G nubia’s flagship or not?

Kangal, 01 Aug 2019Well, the front and the back screens would be equal size wh... moreYes, people mostly consume social media these days and a taller display fits a bit more content. Games and VR on a bigger screen also works better.
And no, 5.7" 16:9 screen is not bigger than 19.5:9 6.4" screen. Just go ahead and calculate their surface area. 5.7" 16:9 screen has 89 cm² of surface, while 19.5:9 6.4" screen has 100 cm² of surface area. The difference is that the taller screen is still narrower than the old 16:9 one, and this makes it easier to hold. But it's impossible to use it single handed, cause it's simply too tall.

Pabliell, 31 Jul 2019It would be very interesting. But my guess is people will ... moreWell, the front and the back screens would be equal size when it comes to 16:9 content.
And that means all videos and games. The other "larger" side will have letterboxing, or blackbars on the sides.

The biggest advantage the front-side would have would be in scrolling through the Web Browser. But that will feel like a waste of phone size, once the back gets enough use imho.

A 6.4 inch screen is smaller than a 5.7 inch screen, don't get fooled. The aspect ratio is designed to trick people like you. The more square the screen is, the larger the area will be, but the diagonal length will appear smaller. For instance, a 2cm x 4cm = 4.47cm diagonal, but now a screen that's twice larger, 4cm x 4cm = 5.65cm diagonal. You see the screen doubled (x2.00) in size, but the diagonal size only went up by x1.26, deceptive.

I have faith/hope in people, that after using what is ergonomically and objectively better on one-side, that they would overcome the effects of marketing/advertising, and have less preference to the wasteful-curved-long-side. But right now, they cannot because they have no freedom but to accept these design choices that are being pushed unto them... if you run the proposed experiment, they would have the freedom, and people can do less biased market-research.

Gonna cross my fingers for stock Android

Once again they had the change to really make an impact on the smartphone market and once again they are gonna miss it. I love Nubia’s approach on innovation, had the Z9 mini and now Z11 mini S myself. But why on earth would you publish a device with that size right now in this completely oversaturated 6.2’’ to 6.5’’ market?! They could have taken the advantage of a front display with no interruption and no space for a front camera to make the main display somewhere around 5.8’’ to 5.9’’, having a rather compact phone with all the newest technology that also an adult could use!! I cannot understand that no manufacturer except Samsung and Apple recognise this segment of more compact/more business phones. My dream would be a Z20 mini with a 5.9’’ screen and only slightly lower specs. One can only pray!!

Kangal, 31 Jul 2019You know what would be interesting? A) Have the backside... moreIt would be very interesting.
But my guess is people will most of the time use the bigger screen, curved or not, because it's better for media consumption, and that's what we do mostly on our phones.
Some people value ergonomics, that's why we call for a smaller screen devices, but most of the people don't care as long as it comfortable to hold, not necessarily comfortable to use.
Why do I think so? Because people are buying devices with bigger and bigger screens. Few years ago 5.7" display, even with quite small bezels was considered huge. Today we have 6.4 or even 6.7" behemoths and people call them simply "big".
People got used to those sizes, even if one-handed use of a whole display is impossible.

The Nubia X is a criminally underrated phone.

                    A) Have the backside of the phone: with a Flat Glass, 16:9 1080p display, 80% Screen-to-Body Ratio, with area to hold the device, as well as the Main Camera, and front-firing stereo loudspeakers.... all fitted by a Tempered Glass Protector.

                    B) Have the frontside of the phone: with a Curved Glass on all-sides, +1440p display, with a weird 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 95% Screen-to-Body Ratio, with constant accidental touches/screen glares, and a subpar underscreen fingerprint scanner built-in.

                    C) Then check the statistics:
                    - Which side do people use more often (front or back)?
                    - Which side do people cover with a Matte Case (curved-front or flat-back)?

Anonymous, 31 Jul 2019Make gapps compatible in this and sure buy from meThey always are... Don't know why people buy the non global version then complain about Google compatibility Frankie tech is a prime example smh

Just wait till global release but again people can't wait

For a good reason, if implemented correctly. You don't need a selfie camera, so no notches or pop-up mechanisms. No additional holes means waterproofing is easy. And you can always use the smaller screen for power efficiency.
The only downside I see is additional cost. Screens are the most expensive parts of the phone. So adding a second one without getting overpriced means cutting on other features. Like waterproofing.
